NO RESERVE Serpell (Dr Sara).- Collection of letters and printed material from the archive of Dr Sara Serpell, including: a quantity of letters, both signed autograph and signed typed letters from various individuals, including: Myrna Loy, Robert Bolt, John Gielgud, Paul Rogers; signed photographs including Nina Epton and Emma Thompson; printed material including: 1898 The Daily Chronichle Newspaper, theatre programs, typewritten manuscripts by e.g. Antonia Fraser, some with folds, a few lightly soiled, v.d., v.s., c.1895-c.1990 (sml. qty)⁂ Dr Sara Serpell first worked as a secretary to R. D. Smith, before becoming a Shakespearean scholar. Smith was a BBC radio producer who worked with and helped figures like Harold Pinter and Richard Burton at the outset of their careers, friends with others such as Louis MacNeice, Dylan Thomas and Bertie Rogers, and was also the inspiration for the character Guy Pringle in his wife, Olivia Manning's, Fortunes of War.
