Andy Warhol, American 1928-1987- "The Shadow", (F&S II.267) from Myths Portfolio, 1981; screenprint in colours with diamond dust on Lenox Museum Board, signed and numbered 55/200 in pencil, 96.5x96.5cm Note: The Shadow by Andy Warhol is a self-portrait belonging to the Myth series of ten screenprints from 1981, that exemplify Warhol's sense for the powerful motifs of his time. They portray the universal view of America's once captivating and commanding past taken from 1950's television and old Hollywood films such as Superman, Uncle Sam, The Wicked Witch, Mickey Mouse and Santa Claus. The Shadow was a fictional radio crime fighter from Warhol's childhood during the 1930's.
