Rarely do we have the opportunity to offer an early chrome bumper GT in such fine condition.Styled by Pininfarina, the MG B GT arrived in 1965 to be greeted by universal acclaim. The adoption of a stylish fastback bodyshell enabled the provision of two occasional rear seats which, when folded flat, created a generous load platform accessible via the rear tailgate The more robust five-bearing B-Series engine was fitted to the GT right from the start and, when fitted with the manual/overdrive gearbox, offered comfortable touring at 70-80mphPrior to our vendor's purchase, it appears that this lovely example had been subject to a bare metal, engine out restoration and he has since had the engine rebuilt within the last 100 milesIt's finished in gleaming Tartan Red and sits on 14" chrome wires wearing excellent SP7s and sporting later-style, 3-eared spinnersThe black leather, piped in red, interior appears standard with a push-button radio and pleasingly retains its original sprung steering wheelA Revotec fan is fitted to aid cooling and the very smart engine bay is enhanced by an alloy rocker cover and polished SU 'pancake' air filtersRarely do we see B GTs in such fine fettle and this seems an excellent opportunity to acquire a ready-to-go classic at a very competitive guide price   SpecificationMake: MGModel: BGTYear: 1968Chassis Number: GHD4157750GRegistration Number: XLM 659GTransmission: Manual O/DEngine Number: 18GD/WE/H5889Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 48348 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: VinylClick here for more details, condition report and images

Martha Gellhorn (1908-1998), American journalist and novelist, considered one of the 20th century's greatest war correspondents, third wife of Ernest Hemingway. An archive of autograph letters, photographs and ephemera sent by Martha Gellhorn to Andrew Tarnowski, a captain in the Carpathian Lancers, with whom she formed a friendship in Italy while working as a war correspondent. The archive comprises four typed letters signed; five signed & inscribed postcards; four signed & inscribed Christmas cards; two U.S. War Correspondent badges; an original photograph depicting Martha Gellhorn with Andrew Tarnowski in Italy during WW2, and a Polish edition of The Carpathian Lancers, 1966, in which the photograph is published. One of the letters is critical of the Vietnam war, 'We are behaving, in Vietnam, like the Nazi army in Poland; I don't believe for a minute in this "Communist aggression" talk (I always remember how the Nazis were going to save the world from Bolshevism too); it is the ugliest power politics, as mad as it is wicked, and we are killing the Vietnamese as if they were non-people, and an enormous number of poor conscripted young Americans are pointlessly dying too in this murder operation...My one hope is that we get a decent President in 1968, but we may not even have a choice beyond the idiocy of Johnson and Nixon. Unfortunately the whole world suffers for the wicked stupidities of our government.'One of letters gives a moving insight into the difficulties of continuing work as a war correspondent while raising a precious child, 'Journalism is hell now for me, because I can't bear being away from Sandy, who grows and changes every day; and I feel cheated to miss any of his baby years. He is too beautiful and funny and charming to be described, and now he talks too, some English, more Spanish, in a sweet soft voice like a dove...I do not believe any other thing in the world matters, except to love another human being and look after that one...Here in Mexico, no one talks or seems to think about War Number Three, which is a lovely state of affairs. I don't think about it either because I refuse to. I live as if life were going to last forever and go quietly and peacefully through my days, playing with the child, managing the house and doing my writing; and I read no newspapers and never listen to the radio, since I mean to be happy as long as I can and not torment myself in advance with the thought of chaos...This trip was not for pleasure, it was only to get enough money, as fast as possible, to feed us for another year...I came back here so tired I slept for a week.'In another letter, she states, 'Year after year, men go on killing each other, fighting wars which are certainly as pointless and insane as the Wars of the Roses....Dearest Andrew, no one really wins in this life but some of us win something. You've won that lovely warm thing of loving your child and surely of being loved by her. It's a big something. The older I get, the more sure I am that love alone matters.'Provenance: By descent of Andrew Tarnowski
