WAYNE JOHN: (1907-1979) American Actor, Academy Award winner. A cream stetson Western Trails hat made by Bailey of California, previously belonging to and worn by John Wayne, the size 7 wool felt hat features a cream ribbon trim to the brim and dark leather sweat band to the inside crown. Signed (`John Wayne`) in bold blue ink with his name alone to the brim. Accompanied by two letters of provenance, the first a typed letter from the OK Corral Cowboy Saddlery & Western Dress suppliers in Sutton, Surrey, 30th March 1974, to J. Wayne in Uxbridge, Middlesex, stating, in part, `We at the OK CORRAL would like to take the opportunity to congratulate you on purchasing the stetson autographed by John Wayne. This item we`re sure, will increase in value, and become a much valued family heir loom....It gave our proprietor great pleasure meeting John Wayne in person to obtain his autograph, he found him most pleasant with his flamboyant personality....We are also grateful to Capitol Radio for auctioning the stetson for us, and pleased that you happened to be listening in at the time.` The second, holograph letter is signed by Jess Willard of Sutton, Surrey, 28th March 1974, and states, in part, `I am the President of the Virginians Western Club. I was very pleased to hear that you bought the stetson with John Wayne`s signature on. When I met John Wayne he was very pleased to sign the hat, and no doubt he would be very pleased to hear that the money raised will go to charity.` Each of the letters are neatly mounted. A superb and rare signed souvenir of the Duke. VG

KRAY REG: (1933-2000) British Leader of Organised Crime. Small collection of four A.Ls.S., Reg and Dad (3), eight pages (total), 4to, Gartree Prison, Leicestershire and n.p. (Sussex), 10th March-16th October n.y. (1989/1990), to Brad Lane Kray, Reg`s `adopted` son. Kray writes a series of social letters to his son, in one commenting on having seen the Flyweight Championship (`they were both bad for supposed to be world class fighters. I`ve seen better fighters`), and also referring to his life in prison (`I`m not happy today because I have to spend a rotten weekend in this dump. No one knows when I am leaving for Lewes. I find it a ridiculous situation which should only occur in prison films such as Porridge. But its a fact. 21 years and they still mess me about`.), radio interviews, having his haircut and a book a friend of his is writing about Doris Stokes. Three of the letters are accompanied by the original envelopes. Also including a typed letter, unsigned, one page, 4to, n.p., 4th October n.y., to Mark, announcing his intention to write a book entitled Success and asking if he would be interested in publishing the book if the complete manuscript meets his approval. BALDWIN STANLEY: (1867-1947) British Prime Minister 1923-24, 1924-29 and 1935-37. Vintage signed 7 x 10 photograph of Baldwin seated in a half length pose at a desk. Photograph by the BBC. Signed (`Baldwin of Bewdley`) in bold, dark fountain pen ink with his name alone across a light area at the base of the image. Rare in this form. About EX This image was taken by the BBC when Baldwin made a radio broadcast. See Lot 763 in our sale of 13th February 2010 when a similar signed photograph, the image depicting Baldwin speaking into a large microphone, was offered.

Arrangements are in hand to assemble the men for return to Argentina, to gather in their arms and equipment and to mark and make safe their munitions.
