Ed Vebell (American, 1921 - 2018) "F.D. Roosevelt Fireside Chat" Signed lower right. Original Acrylic on Hot Press Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This artwork was originally published on the Fleetwood Commemorative Cover for Epic Events in American History series issued in 1985. On March 4, 1933 Franklin Roosevelt took the oath of office, and faced the most dangerous crisis in the history of the nation since 1861. The stockmarket crash of 1929 had set off what proved ot be the deepest and longest depression Americans had ever endured: one that afflicted alike farmers, workers, businessmen and bankers. What this crisis called for was action as swift and decisive as would be taken in time of war. Roosevelt asked for, and took that action. Before the day was out he had declared a national Bank Holiday, called Congress into special session, directed the Federal Reserve to apply its full resources to saving and opening the banks, and foreshadowed a robust program of relief and reform. Then he turned to the nation to explain in language that all could understand. This was the first of his "Fireside Chats," one of FDR's many strokes of political genius. For although the radio had been available for some twelve years, Roosevelt was the first President to take full advantage of it. He used it with a consummate skill which no later president ever achieved. His first address, March 12, 1933, set the pattern for the whole series of thirty-one. It was simple, but never undignified; it explained in terms that everyone could understand, the problems and the actions which he proposed to take. In fact, it made no concessions to popular idiom. It was through these fatherly talks to the American people that Roosevelt reached a rapport with the nation that proved irresistible. Image Size: 20 x 21 in. Overall Size: 26 x 26.5 in. Unframed. Keith Reynolds (American, B. 1929) "Ionmeto Patrol Boat" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Canvasboard. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original which was published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 29c Ionmeto stamp and First Day Cover issued February 15, 1992. Rich treasures in the form of abundant fisheries can be found in the lucid waters off the Marshall Islands. To protect them, the Republic of the Marshall Islands launched the patrol boat Ionmeto in 1988. She has sailed the islands since that time acting as a deterrent to those who are unlawful and as an aid to those in distress. With the classic lines of the patrol boats of World War II, the Ionmeto can carry a crew of 12. And with a fuel capacity of 9,000 gallons, the Ionmeto is able to ride the swells and patrol outside the reefs for long periods of time. Her high-tech radar, radio and sensing equipment makes her a poacher's nemesis. Image Size: 12.75 x 20 in. Overall Size: 16 x 20 in. Unframed. (B13573)

Norbert Schultze ALS with written music score for Lili Marleen plus 6x4 signed colour photograph. Schultze wrote the melody to Lili Marleen from the poem Die kleine Hafenorgel by Hans Leip. Sound recordings, first with a female singer Lale Andersen in 1939 at first sold little, but when the German military transmitter in Belgrade signed off with a recording from the singer several times, listeners' letters showed lively demand. The song met the inner mood of millions of soldiers of all armies who were fighting on both sides of the fronts and was translated into about fifty languages to become one of the global cultural index fossils of the Second World War. It was the first German million-seller. Good condition. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. We combine postage on multiple winning lots and can ship worldwide.
