ATOMIC BOMB: A First Day Cover issued to commemorate the 50 States of the United States of America and featuring a design incorporating the American eagle etc., individually signed by five crew members of the Enola Gay, the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb when it targeted the city of Hiroshima on 6th August 1945 during the final stages of World War II, comprising Paul Tibbets (pilot), Tom Ferebee (bombardier), Theodore 'Dutch' Van Kirk (navigator), Morris Jepson (assistant weaponeer) and Richard Nelson (radio operator), and also signed by two crew members of Bock's Car, the second (and last) aircraft to drop an atomic bomb when it targeted Nagasaki on 9th August 1945 during the final stages of World War II, comprising Charles Sweeney (pilot) and Fred Olivi (co-pilot). All have signed in blue or black inks (Olivi in bold pencil) to clear areas of the cover. Post marked 23rd February 1976. VG
