Original vintage limited edition lithograph poster, printed in edition of 2,000, this copy is number 24 - Great Southern Railway Queen Class No. 800 "Maedb" (Maeve / Maedhbh) designed by E.C. Bredin Built 1938-9 at Inchicore Works Dublin. The Great Southern Railways Class 800 steam locomotives were built principally for express passenger work on the Dublin to Cork main line of that company. These locomotives were designed under the supervision of E. C. Bredin with his Chief Draughtsman, H. J. A. Beaumont, preparing the drawings. They were the largest and most powerful engines ever to run in Ireland by quite a large margin, and the only three express passenger locomotives to be built in an independent Ireland. No. 800 Maedb was withdrawn from service in 1962 and is now on display at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.  Excellent condition. Original vintage travel poster issued by British Railways - Great image of Edinburgh Castle, Scott Monument and Princes Street - people, cars and buses fill the roads and white clouds fill the blue sky. Red and black banners with stylised lettering and a British Railways logo. British Railways (BR), which from 1965 traded as British Rail, was the state-owned company that operated most of the overground rail transport in Great Britain between 1948 and 1997. It was formed from the nationalisation of the "Big Four" British railway companies and lasted until the gradual privatisation of British Rail, in stages between 1994 and 1997. Originally a trading brand of the Railway Executive of the British Transport Commission, it became an independent statutory corporation in 1962 designated as the British Railways Board. After the grouping of 1923 under the Railways Act 1921, there were four large railway companies, each dominating its own geographic area: the Great Western Railway (GWR), the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS), the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) and the Southern Railway (SR). During World War I the railways were under state control, which continued until 1921. Complete nationalisation had been considered, and the Railways Act 1921 is sometimes considered as a precursor to that, but the concept was rejected. Nationalisation was subsequently carried out after World War II, under the Transport Act 1947. This Act made provision for the nationalisation of the network, as part of a policy of nationalising public services by Clement Attlee's Labour Government. British Railways came into existence as the business name of the Railway Executive of the British Transport Commission (BTC) on 1 January 1948 when it took over the assets of the Big Four. Original vintage poster featuring a stunning painting entitled Niagara Falls From Michigan Central Train by Charles Graham (1852-1911) depicting a steam train with passengers walking nearby enjoying the dramatic waterfall from the landscaped grassed viewpoint area above the trees covered in autumn leaves and small bridge leading to the pagoda lookout on Cedar Island (now part of the mainland and the hydroelectric power station), the town and hills in the far distance on the horizon and a tourist boat by the rocks on the water below the falls. The Michigan Central Railroad (reporting mark MC) was originally incorporated in 1846 to establish rail service between Detroit, Michigan and St. Joseph, Michigan. The railroad later operated in the states of Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois in the United States, and the province of Ontario in Canada. After about 1867 the railroad was controlled by the New York Central Railroad, which later became part of Penn Central and then Conrail. After the 1998 Conrail breakup Norfolk Southern Railway now owns much of the former Michigan Central trackage. At the end of 1925 MC operated 1871 miles of road and 4139 miles of track; that year it reported 4304 million net ton-miles of revenue freight and 600 million passenger-miles.
