Cosmonautics Day has been celebrated annually in the Soviet Union and Russia since 1962 and internationally since 2011 as the International Day of Human Space Flight. Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky (17 September [O.S. 5 September] 1857 – 19 September 1935), was a Russian and Soviet rocket scientist who pioneered astronautic theory. Along with the Frenchman Robert Esnault-Pelterie, the Transylvanian German Hermann Oberth and the American Robert H. Goddard, he is one of the founding fathers of modern rocketry and astronautics. His works later inspired leading Soviet rocket-engineers Sergei Korolev and Valentin Glushko who contributed to the success of the Soviet space program. Original vintage poster advertising ferry services of the British Railways, Port to Port. Poster designed by Terence Cuneo shows the control deck of the freery ship at sea with captain surveying the horizon and sailor at the helm. The sketches for this poster were done from the bridge of the S.S. Invicta, mid Channel, in very rough seas. Terence Tenison Cuneo CVO OBE RGI FGRA (1 November 1907 – 3 January 1996) was a prolific English painter noted for his scenes of railways, horses and military actions. He was also the official artist for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. From 1954 his works included a small mouse, sometimes lifelike, sometimes cartoonish. These became his trademark after 1956. In this poster the mouse is wearing a stipy sailor shirt. Very good condition, restored creasing, restored paper loss, restored tears, backed on linen. The image by V K Jonynas shows King Vytautas in a red fur-lined cloak and crown and silver armour sat on a throne, resting a sword across his knee - all against a bold red background. Vytautas the Great was a medieval ruler of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from 1392 until his death in 1420. Original vintage Art Deco advertising poster promoting the 1931 Paris Colonial Exposition, issued by the French railway company Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de Paris a Lyon et a Mediterranee (PLM). The black silhouette of a steam train drives towards the viewer at the centre of the image; in the background is a silhouette of an island covered in palm trees and a temple, with camels and an elephant standing by the shore. Down the centre of the poster are the words Paris Lyon Mediterranee, the first letters of each location oversized in an art deco font. The bottom of the poster displays information about the Colonial Exposition in white font on a red background. Original vintage sports poster Brands Hatch racing for the Last Summer Meeting held at the famous circuit on October 9th, 1955 with a programme including 1200c.c., Unlimited Sports Cars and Formula III. Brands Hatch is a motor racing circuit in West Kingsdown, Kent, England. First used as a grasstrack motorcycle circuit on farmland, it hosted 12 runnings of the Fomula 1 British Grand Prix between 1964 and 1986 and currently hosts many British and International racing events. The venue is owned and operated by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision organisation. Brands Hatch stands for history and British motor racing at its best. Back in 1925, the first motor-bike races were held at Brands Hatch on a grass circuit. Legends such as Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, James Hunt or Ayrton Senna already celebrated race wins at the time-honoured motor-racing venue. Original vintage advertising poster for comedy clown show - Willy Hagenbeck presents: Noni, England's No. 1 Clown with his charming daughters Nita and Dody. The poster features a fun illustration of Noni in a black suit holding the neck of the violin in one hand and fiddle bow in the other, with his daughters portrayed as two little harmonicas looking at the fiddle body on the ground, yellow and white text set against black, red, and white background. Noni was born in Nice in 1893 and came from a circus family; his paternal grandmother Coralie Ducos was a star of the Cirque des Champs Elysees. He learned to play musical instruments and picked Grock the clown as his performance inspiration, becoming famous in British and Germanic music halls. He also performed in front of Queen Marie at the Royal Variety Performance. After their performance, the female artists at the Gala recieved a bouquet of flowers - upon finishing his number, Noni asked for his bouquet. Queen Marie was amused and offered him her own bouquet.
