Patent, No. 101, Circa 1830With rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrel (retaining bolt replaced) rifled with eight grooves, serial numbered and engraved 'Twisted' along the bottom flat, recessed patent breech with rectangular gold-lined maker's mark (obscured), gold lines and foliate engraving along each side flat, raised platinum-lined touch-hole, foliate engraved tang with back-sight, signed border engraved serial numbered lock (safety-catch incomplete), the inside engraved with crowned 'SD' (possible for Samson Davis), pivoting devolving rainproof pan and serial numbered nipple-bolster, the latter with silver plug, secured in their relevant positions by a wing-headed screw slotted for a turnscrew, foliate engraved steel with roller, figured half-stock with stepped spur and chequered rounded grip, the latter with flat ovoidal pommel set with a foliate engraved steel plate and encircled by a silver band engraved with a Greek key pattern, steel spur trigger-guard with pineapple finial and foliate engraved bow, vacant silver escutcheon on the side-flat, horn fore-end cap, and original brass-mounted ramrod (some wear and areas of pitting), Birmingham proof marks 20.5 cm. barrelFootnotes:ProvenancePossibly the Nizam of HyderabadJ.G.
