Original vintage advertising poster for Nuit de la Medecine / Night of Medicine - a gala held to raise money and awareness for the medical profession on 12 December 1958 at the Hotel Continental in Paris. The whimsical design by J F Varley shows two men with grey hair and glasses, wearing tall black hats, peeping over a stone balustrade against a dark blue background decorated with yellow stars, with text displayed on white banners above their head. The fundraiser included performances by Andre Reweliotty and his Orchestra, and R.D Costario and his Steel Band. Very good condition, creasing, minor staining. Country of issue: France, designer: J. Original vintage double-sided advertising poster flyer for Bitter Campari el aperitivo - aperitif liquor, featuring a great design of patterned paper wrapped around a bottle of liquor - the wrapper is peeiling off to reveal a golden Campari label on the carmine red bottle, with stylised title in white and yellow below, set against a black background. The reverse of the poster features the most popular Campari cocktails with a playful caricature of a man holding up a glass and winking at the viewer and text reading: Reconstituting Wines. Among the restorative wines, Fernet Branca, made in Milan, Italy, has stood out for many years. Campari is an Italian alcoholic aperitif liquor made from alcohol infused with fruit and herbs. Original vintage Brands Hatch Motorcycle Racing poster for the National Open Meeting race on Whit Monday with star entries from Mike Hailwood, Cyril Smith and Bill Boddice. Michael Bailey Hailwood, MBE, GM (2 April 1940 - 23 March 1981) was a British Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. He is regarded by many as one of the greatest racers of all time. Hailwood was known as "Mike The Bike" because of his natural riding ability on bikes with a range of engine capacities. Later in his career he went on to compete in Formula One and other classes of car racing, becoming one of the few men to compete at Grand Prix level in both motorcycle and car racing. He died following a road traffic accident in Warwickshire, England. Brands Hatch is a motor racing circuit in West Kingsdown, Kent, England. First used as a grasstrack motorcycle circuit on farmland, it hosted 12 runnings of the Fomula 1 British Grand Prix between 1964 and 1986 and currently hosts many British and International racing events. The venue is owned and operated by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision organisation. Brands Hatch stands for history and British motor racing at its best. Back in 1925, the first motor-bike races were held at Brands Hatch on a grass circuit. Legends such as Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, James Hunt or Ayrton Senna already celebrated race wins at the time-honoured motor-racing venue. The image shows green stick figures among black vertical lines, with stylised handwritten text in blue outline in red with yellow and black crosses, signed A.R. Penck. Ralf Winkler (1939-2017) was a German artist working in a neo-expressionist style. Bitterfeld Conference, locally known as the "Bitterfelder Weg" sought to connect the working class with the artists of the day and form a new programmatic development of socialist cultural policy in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and point the way to an independent socialist national culture allowing to meet the "growing artistic and aesthetic needs of the working people". Vintage reproduction of the 1893 advertising poster created by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec to promote Divan Japonais, a café-chantant / theatre in Pigalle, Paris. The striking image shows two figures - writer Edouard Dujardin and dancer Jane Avril – in a crowd of people watching a performance by the French cabaret singer and Belle Epoque actress Yvette Guilbert. The Divan Japonais was founded in 1873 – the space was previously occupied by a ballroom patronized by Edgar Degas and Charles Baudelaire. Decorated in Japanese style, the Divan Japonais was frequented by many of Montmartre’s most notable celebrities, including Toulouse-Lautrec, Adolphe Leon Willette and Pablo Picasso.
