A typed caption to the verso begins 'The loveliness of Lamarr….' and states that the actress has just completed filming H. M. Pulham, Esq. (1941) in which she starred as Marvin Myles Ransome. In costume from Citizen KaneWELLES ORSON: (1915-1985) American Actor & Film Director, Academy Award winner. An exceptional vintage signed sepia 8 x 10 photograph of Welles in a head and shoulders pose, wearing a top hat, in costume as the wealthy newspaper publisher Charles Foster Kane from the classic film Citizen Kane (1941). Signed by Welles in bold blue fountain pen ink with his name alone to a clear area of the background. Signed photographs of Welles in costume from arguably his most famous role are of the utmost rarity and highly desirable. VG    Citizen Kane (1941) was Welles's first feature film, which he also co-wrote, produced and directed. It is constantly ranked as one of the greatest movies ever made.

HITCHCOCK ALFRED: (1899-1980) British Film Director, Academy Award winner. An excellent vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Hitchcock in a head and shoulders pose. A pencil annotation in the hand of a collector to the verso indicates that the photograph was a publicity portrait for the film North by Northwest (1959). Signed by Hitchcock in blue fountain pen ink at the head of the image, 'To Pierre, Alfred Hitchcock'. Some very light, minor wrinkling to the upper edge and one minor, small surface crease to the lower edge, otherwise VG  North by Northwest (1959) is a spy thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint and James Mason. The film is listed among the canonical Hitchcock films of the 1950s and is often listed among the greatest movies of all time. Provenance: The present photograph originates from the collection of Pierre Goulliard, a French gentleman who, for over 50 years, dedicated himself to obtaining in person autographs of British, American and European movie stars, always obtaining the signatures in fountain pen ink.

An excellent vintage signed and inscribed 14 x 11 photograph, the image depicting Disney seated in a three quarter length pose at the steering wheel of a buggy, presumably within the grounds of Disneyland. At his side the American actress Carol Channing and French actor and entertainer Maurice Chevalier can be seen seated in three quarter length poses. Signed by Disney in bold black ink to the image, and inscribed to Chevalier, 'To Maurice, Avec Mon Appreciation, Walt Disney' and also signed and inscribed by Channing to Chevalier, 'Maurice dearest, How lucky can a girl get?...being between the first Gentlemen of France and America! With devotion and xxx's, Carol Channing'. A rare signed photograph with excellent associations. Some light surface and corner creasing, otherwise VG

[BAKER JOSEPHINE]: (1906-1975) American-born French entertainer. BOUILLON JO (1908-1984) French composer, conductor & violinist, the fourth husband of Josephine Baker from 1947-61. Vintage signed and inscribed 8.5 x 11 photograph of Bouillon in a close-up portrait pose. The Pathe Disques promotional image is signed in bold blue fountain pen ink to the base of the image, with a lengthy four-line inscription in French, dated January 1943 in his hand. Together with a vintage postcard photograph of Baker standing in a full-length pose wearing a typically elaborate costume, the image signed in bold blue ink by Bouillon, also on behalf of his wife, 'Souvenir de Josephine et Jo Bouillon'. A few minor surface and corner creases, about VG, 2

GARDEL CARLOS: (1890-1935) French-born Argentine Singer & Songwriter, the most prominent figure in the history of tango. Rare, vintage signed and inscribed postcard photograph, a head and shoulders study of the smiling Carlitos. Signed in fountain pen ink to the image, across a slightly darker area although perfectly legible `To the great journal of Quilmes "El Sol", sincere souvenir, Carlos Gardel´. Autographs of Gardel are rare in any form following his tragic death at the age of 44 in an airplane crash in Colombia. Photograph by Valdemaro of Milan and bearing their imprint to the lower photographer's mount. Signed ('Giacomo Puccini') by the composer in bold black fountain pen ink to a clear area of the image, with an inscription to a cousin, and dated at Torre del Lago, 1915, in his hand. BERNSTEIN LEONARD: (1918-1990) American conductor, pianist & composer of the Broadway musical West Side Story. A scarce, early vintage signed postcard photograph of Bernstein in a profile head and shoulders pose at Teatro alla Scala in Milan and bearing the opera house's credit stamp to the verso. Signed by Bernstein in blue ink with his name alone to the lower white border. The signature is a little light in places, although reasonably legible. An historic signed image. VG  In 1953 Bernstein became the first American conductor to appear at La Scala, conducting Maria Callas in Cherubini's Medea, directed by Luchino Visconti.

Together with NEY ELLY (1882-1968) German Pianist, well remembered for her Beethoven´s performances. T.L.S., `Elly Ney´, with annotation in her hand, one page, to the verso of a 4 x 6 photograph, Tutzing, 13th December 1958, to Frau Cornand, in German. The image depicting to the front Elly seated, in a half length pose, playing the piano. VG, 2

Vintage signed and inscribed 4 x 6 cabinet card photograph of De Reszke, the Nadar Photographer image depicting the tenor in a formal head and shoulders pose. Neatly signed in dark fountain pen ink to a clear area at the head of the image, also dated 1897 in his hand. Affixed to the verso the cast page of a programme opera performance of Gounod´s opera Faust, featuring Jean de Reszke as Faust, and his brother Edouard de Reszke as Mephistophele. VG

Boldly signed in blue ink to a clear area of the image.  Autographs of Wunderlich are rare following his tragic death at the early age of 35. Bearing to the verso a printed list of Wunderlich´s recording with Electrola. EX

STORCHIO ROSINA: (1876-1945) Italian Soprano. Storchio created roles in several operas by Puccini, Leoncavallo, Mascagni and Giordano including Mimi in Leoncavallo´s La Boheme (1897) and Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly (1904). A rare and excellent vintage signed and inscribed 9 x 12.5 photograph of Storchio, the Esommariva image from Milano showing the Italian soprano standing in a full length pose, in costume. Signed in bold black fountain pen ink to the lower matted border `Rosina Storchio´, also dated beneath in her hand, Milano 1936. Inscribed to the upper border `A Marina Scialapen, Fiore di gioventu  e bellezza con l´augurio d´ogni bene´(“To Marina Chaliapin, Flower of youth and beauty with the wish of all the good´) Very light corner crease and few small stains to the matted border, otherwise VG    Marina Chaliapin (1912-2009) was the daughter of Russian opera singer Feodor Chaliapin (1873-1938), widely regarded as one of the best bass singers of the 20th century.

TEBALDI RENATA: (1922-2004) Italian Soprano. One of the greatest voices of 20th century. An excellent set of a vintage signed and inscribed 7.5 x 9.5 photograph and a very interesting content A.L.S., `Renata Tebaldi´, signed twice, Milan, 3rd August 1951, in Italian. The Bruno Nyc image depicting the Italian diva in a close-up head and shoulders semi profile pose. Signed in bold blue ink to a clear area of the image, al so dated in Milan, 1962, in her hand. To the autograph letter signed, Tebaldi explains that she has just arrived to Milan and refers to her immediate calendar and to her correspondent´s proposal to perform Aida, stating in part `Ho comunicato a Napoli quanto dovevo, metterti d´accordo con le date non e possible foiche l´Assedio di Corinto andrebbe assieme alle vostre recite di Aida.´, ("I have communicated to Naples what I had to, agreeing with the dates is not possible because the Siege of Corinth would go together with your performances of Aida."), Tebaldi further refers to her next immediate commitment `..lasciarmi libera per voi ver poter fare Aida, ma subito dopo tale opera dovrei ritornare a Napoli per fare Traviata.´ ("..leave me free for you to perform Aida, but immediately after this work I should return to Naples to do Traviata."). Further again Tebaldi sends a significant message `Lei che conosce tanto bene il teatro mi comprendera molto bene, Ora, renata Tebaldi deve contare tutti I passi che fa…!´ ("You who know theatre so well will understand me very well, Now, Renata Tebaldi must explain all the steps she takes..!") Tebaldi refers to her future performance as the `Contessa nelle Nozze di Figaro´, to her trip to Rio de Janeiro, and concludes regretting about the Aida performances which will have to be delayed despite her interest `..non potro essere io la fortunata protagonista´ (" …I will not be able to be the fortunate main character") VG, 2

Vintage signed 8 x 10 photograph, a head and shoulders close-up image of Stella; A.L.S., `Stella´, two pages, 4to, Rome, 25th May 1981, to Renate Bubik, in Italian. Accompanied by the original envelope addressed in Stella´s hand; and three signed and inscribed postcard photographs by Stella, the three Piccagliani photographs depicting the Italian opera singer in costume, in different roles, two in Puccini´s opera Suor Angelica (1918), and one as Teresa in Verdi´s opera La Battaglia di Legnano (1848), all at Teatro Alla Scala of Milano. All are signed in bold blue ink largely to clear areas of the images. VG, 5

NAGEL CONRAD: (1897-1970) American Actor, a founding member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who also served as the fourth President of the Academy from 1932-33. Vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Nagel in a head and shoulders pose. Photograph by Clarence Sinclair Bull and bearing his blindstamp to the lower right corner. Signed by Nagel in bold black fountain pen ink to the image, partially across a darker area although reasonably legible. Neatly and lightly mounted to a folio page removed from an album and with some light mottling to the image, G    The present photograph was originally included (along with thirty-six others) in a folio calf leather bound presentation album which was one of just fourteen (as far as our research indicates) that were presented to the individual members of a delegation of British journalists who visited America for a two-month tour in 1928. Funded by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the objective of the tour was to improve Anglo-American relations and the presentation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Roosevelt Hotel on 7th November 1928 (just over six months before the first Oscar was presented at the very same venue) was a major highlight of the tour. The album from which the present photograph was extracted had been presented to F. Lawrence Johnson, a journalist associated with the Northeastern Daily Gazette, and the photograph bears an inscription to him.

A good vintage signed and inscribed sepia 8 x 10 photograph, a soft-focus image of Coward in a head and shoulders pose. Signed in bold black fountain pen ink to a clear area of the image. One minor crease to the clear border in the lower left corner, otherwise VG

VON FAULHABER MICHAEL CARDINAL RITTER: (1869-1952) German Catholic Prelate who served as Archbishop of Munich (1917-52) during World War II. Von Faulhaber ordained Joseph Ratzinger (the future Pope Benedict XVI) as a priest in 1951 and was the last surviving Cardinal appointed by Pope Benedict XV. Vintage signed colour postcard by Von Faulhaber, the image being a reproduction of a painting of the Cardinal in a half length pose. Signed ('+ M. Card. Faulhaber') in bold pencil to the verso and dated Speyer, 16th August 1925 in his hand. With a facsimile signature to the lower white border of the recto. Together with Lorenz Jaeger (1892-1975) German Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, Archbishop of Paderborn 1941-73. Signed colour 4 x 6 postcard photograph of the Cardinal in a semi-profile head and shoulders pose. Signed ('+ Lorenz Card. Jaeger') in bold black ink with his name alone to the verso. Also including Theodor Innitzer (1875-1955) Austro-Hungarian Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, Archbishop of Vienna 1932-55. In April 1938, at the time of Adolf Hitler's birthday, Innitzer delivered a sermon in which he declared 'we must confess our faith in our Fuhrer, for there is just one Fuhrer: Jesus Christ'. This greatly angered the Nazi leaders and the following day Innitzer's residence was ransacked. Ink signature ('+ Th Kard. Innitzer') and a few additional words in his hand, including the date 27th March 1934, on a plain postcard with a newspaper portrait of the Cardinal neatly affixed above the signature. G to about VG, 3

GRIFFITH HUGH: (1912-1980) Welsh Actor, Academy Award winner. Vintage signed 9.5 x 7 photograph of Griffith standing outdoors in a three-quarter length pose in costume as Squire Western alongside actress Edith Evans, in costume as Miss Western, in a scene from the film Tom Jones (1963). Signed by Griffith in blue ink to a light area of the image. The actor received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in this film. Rare in this form. EX  Provenance: The present photograph originates from the collection of Pierre Goulliard, a French gentleman who, for over 50 years, dedicated himself to obtaining in person autographs of British, American and European movie stars, always obtaining the signatures in fountain pen ink.

LAW ENFORCEMENT: An unusual vintage signed 9.5 x 7.5 photograph by John Du Rose, Detective Chief Superintendent of Scotland Yard, and five of his investigating officers individually, being members of the team who investigated the Hammersmith nude murders of 1964-65, the image depicting the officers, alongside several other colleagues, standing together in full-length poses in a car park, most taking down notes. Signed in bold blue or black fountain pen inks. Together with a selection of small signed cards, pieces, printed book images etc., by various other police officers including Frederick R. Cherrill (1892-1964, Chief Superintendent of the Fingerprint Bureau at New Scotland Yard), Ranulph Bacon (1906-1988, Assistant Commissioner 'A', Metropolitan Police 1961-63, Assistant Commissioner 'C', Metropolitan Police 1963-66 and Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis 1966), Robert Fabian (1901-1978, English police officer, a Detective Superintendent in the Metropolitan Police known as 'Fabian of the Yard'; 2), Richard Jackson (1902-1975, British police officer who served as Assistant Commissioner 'C', Metropolitan Police 1953-63 and as President of Interpol 1960-63; 2) and Edgar Lustgarten (1907-1978, British broadcaster and noted crime writer who hosted Scotland Yard from 1953-61). Generally VG, 8   The Hammersmith nude murders was the name given to a series of six murders in West London in 1964 and 1965. The victims, all prostitutes, were found undressed in or near the River Thames, leading the press to nickname the killer 'Jack the Stripper'. Despite 'intense media interest and one of the biggest manhunts in Scotland Yard's history' the case remains unsolved. Two of the murdered prostitutes were believed to have been peripherally connected to the Profumo Affair of 1963 and the suspects included British light heavyweight boxing champion Freddie Mills.

Book signed, being a hardback edition of The Truth at Last - My Story, First Edition published by Sidgwick & Jackson, London, 2001. Signed by Keeler with her name alone in blue ink to the title page. Accompanied by the dust jacket. Together with John Profumo (1915-2006) British politician who served as Secretary of State for War 1960-63, during which time he had a sexual relationship with Christine Keeler which subsequently caused a scandal and resulted in his resignation from Harold Macmillan's government. T.L.S., John Profumo, one page, 8vo, n.p. (London?), 3rd June 1955, to P. W. Manzi-Fe, on the printed stationery of the House of Commons. Profumo thanks his correspondent for their letter of congratulations upon the Election result, and comments that he had already heard of Manzi-Fe's sterling work, remarking 'I know Valerie would want to join me in sending you our thanks'. Profumo also refers to his correspondent's visit to the Stratford Alms House and states that he will take the matter up with the Stratford Local Authority personally when he is next in the constituency. Also including Valerie Hobson (1917-1998) English Actress, starred in Bride of Frankenstein (1935). Wife of John Profumo from 1954-98. COOPER GARY: (1901-1961) American actor, Academy Award winner. A good vintage black ink signature ('Gary Cooper') and self-caricature (?) by Cooper to the centre of a 4to page removed from an album. Immediately beneath his signature the actor has drawn a simple, although appealing, ink sketch of a cowboy wearing a ten-gallon hat and smoking a cigarette from which smoke rings can be seen ascending, the image reminiscent of Cooper's strong, silent style of acting and, perhaps, his role as Marshal Will Kane in the film High Noon (1952) for which he won a Best Actor Oscar. Dated 23rd September 1960 in another hand. The page also bears four other signatures to the recto and verso including that of Pierre Mondy (1925-2012) French actor and director. Hallyday's signature could be neatly excised from the page if so desired. DALI SALVADOR: (1904-1989) Spanish Surrealist Painter. A very good vintage signature with drawing by Dali. Attractively and flamboyantly signed 'Dali´, with his typically large signature, to a 7.5 x 9.5 (19,5 x 24,7 cm) page removed from an autograph album. Dali has boldly drawn in blue ink a shooting star to the heading and a large sketch of an ant beneath. Dated to the bottom right corner, 1959, in his hand. To the verso the autograph album page bears few unidentified signatures. Small overall minor age toning, with one stain, not affecting the signature or drawing. RENOIR PIERRE-AUGUSTE: (1841-1919) French Impressionist Artist. A good vintage signed 6 x 10.5 photograph, being a reproduction of one of the artist's studies of a naked lady, standing in a full length pose wearing a hat, and with a dog at her side. Signed ('Renoir') in bold black ink with his name alone to the lower border. Also signed by the Mayor of Cagnes beneath a short statement confirming the authenticity of Renoir's signature, dated 10th January 1911. The lower border also features the Mayor's official purple rubber stamp. Neatly mounted to a page removed from a contemporary album. HARRISON REX: (1908-1990) English actor, Academy Award winner. Vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of the actor seated in a full length pose in costume as Julius Caesar in a scene from the American epic historical drama film Cleopatra (1963) in which he starred alongside Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Signed in blue fountain pen ink to a light area of the image. It was for his performance in this film that Harrison received a Best Actor Oscar nomination. VG

WELLES ORSON: (1915-1985) American Actor & Film Director, Academy Award winner. An excellent vintage signed 9 x 6.5 photograph of Welles, the unusual image showing Welles seated in a half-length pose alongside friends and musicians at a Viennese restaurant. Stamped to the verso by Foto Choutka, photographer, Vienna. Signed by Welles in blue ink to a clear and attractive small area of the image. The present image was taken during the time of the filming of The Third Man, 1949,widely considered one of the best British films of all time. VG
