BOWMORE BLAIR CASTLE INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRIALS 2003 ISLAY SINGLE MALT 40% ABV / 70cl Sat on the picturesque shore of Loch Indaal, Bowmore is a distillery steeped in mythology and legend, ranging from tales of Sea Dragons and Devils in churches to, er, seagulls. Making use of Islay’s abundant peat, Bowmore whisky can be smoky and briny, but it distinguishes itself from its contemporaries with notes of tropical fruit and Parma Violets. Most famous among whisky auction regulars are its outstanding “Black” releases. These 1964 vintage sherry bombs were available for a snip when they made their debut in the early 1990s, but are now capable of commanding five figure sums at auction.
GLENLIVET NADURRA 1991 VINTAGE EDITION SPEYSIDE SINGLE MALT Distilled: 1991Bottled: 03/2010Batch Number: 0310B48% ABV / 70cl One of the very first distilleries in Scotland to be granted an official licence, after the passing of the licencing act in 1823, Glenlivet distillery has become synonymous with Speyside whisky. So much so, that at one point 28 other distilleries in the area adopted “Glenlivet” as a suffix to their own brand in order to piggyback on the reputation Glenlivet had built for itself. Although that practise has fallen by the wayside in recent years some independent bottlers still use it. The Glenlivet brand is now one of the most recognisable in the world, and despite the distillery undergoing an expansion and upgrade (beginning) in 2010, their iconic 12-Year-Old expression still had to be discontinued for a few years before production was able to catch up with demand.
GLENGOYNE 1968 VINTAGE RESERVE HIGHLAND SINGLE MALT Bottle Number: 151350.3% ABV / 70cl Founded in 1833, Glengoyne distillery, just to the north of Glasgow, straddles the Highland/Lowland border. The light, fruity and honied spirit is predominantly filled into Sherry Casks that are transported from its Highland Still House, across the road to its warehouses in the Lowlands.Glengoyne wasn't seriously marketed as a single malt until the 1990s, and has since achieved huge popularity, especially in Europe. And, thanks to its proximity to Glasgow, visitors flock to the distillery in their droves to experience the many tours and tastings on offer.
