HALLYDAY JOHNNY: (1943-2017) French pop singer & actor, credited with having brought rock and roll to France. Vintage blue ink signature and inscription ('Pour Jean - avec toute mon amitie, a bientot, Johnny Hallyday') to the base of a 4to page removed from an album, also bearing five unidentified signatures to either side. Hallyday's signature could be neatly excised from the page if so desired. VG Provenance: The present page originates from the restaurant visitor's book of Jean Cassini, a renowned French restaurateur in Avignon, both at the Hotel d'Europe and his own establishment, Restaurant Cassini. The visitor's book was in use from 1957-82.
SUPREMES DIANA ROSS & THE: A good vintage signed 8 x 10 photograph by all three members of the American Motown Records female singing group Diana Ross & The Supremes individually, comprising Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong. The image depicts the trio in a group pose, each wearing identical white striped dresses. Signed by all three with their first names only, Ross and Wilson in fountain pen inks, and the former across a darker area of the image. BEATLES THE: Vintage signed postcard photograph by all four members of the English rock band of the 1960s individually, comprising John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, the promotional Parlophone Records image depicting the Fab Four in head and shoulders poses together, each wearing identical black suits and ties. Signed by all four with their names alone. Lennon's fountain pen ink signature is a little faded, although legible. McCartney's blue ink signature partially runs across a darker area. Starr's signature is almost completely faded and only very slightly visible. Harrison's blue ink signature is to a clear area of the border. One vertical crease to the right edge, slightly affecting each of the signatures, and with a small area of paper loss to the lower right corner, resulting in the loss of the last letter of Harrison's signature. ROLLING STONES THE: A vintage blank printed 4to menu card from the Kings Arms Hotel at Dorchester individually signed by four members of the English rock band The Rolling Stones, comprising Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Keith Richards and Bill Wyman. All have signed in bold blue inks with their names alone. Annotated in ink in the hand of a collector to the upper edge. Together with a vintage blue ink signature of Charlie Watts, with two additional words in his hand, on a 12mo piece, most likely clipped from the conclusion of a letter, lightly mounted with a post-it to the base of the menu (the signature could easily be removed without damage if desired). Accompanied by the original envelope bearing small images of each member of the band on a strip of stickers affixed to the upper edge. A rare and excellent vintage signed and inscribed 7 x 11 cabinet card photograph of Storchio, the Varischi Artico & Co image from Milano showing the Italian soprano kneeling in a full-length pose, in costume as Cio Cio San in Puccini´s Madama Butterfly, the role she created. PAVLOVA ANNA: (1881-1931) Russian prima ballerina, remembered for her creation of the role of The Dying Swan. A good vintage signed and inscribed sepia 9.75 x 7 photograph of Pavlova in a full-length pose in costume from The Dying Swan. Signed in dark fountain pen ink to a clear area of the image and dated 1929 in her hand. Signed photographs of Pavlova of this size, and depicting the dancer in her most famous role, are scarce and desirable. Some light silvering to the edges of the image and a couple of heavy creases and one closed tear to the right edge. Possibly mounted to card, although unexamined out of the original dark wooden frame, measuring 12 x 8.5 overall. G The Dying Swan is a solo dance choreographed by Mikhail Fokine to Camille Saint-Saen's Le Cygne from Le Carnaval des animaux as a piece d'occasion for Pavlova, who performed it around 4,000 times. The short ballet, of four minutes, follows the last moments in the life of a swan, and was first presented in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1905.

A good and attractive vintage signed and inscribed 7.5 x 9.5 pearl-finish photograph by Fonteyn, the Anthony Studio of London image depicting the dancer in costume, in a full-length action pose. Two vintage individually signed 8 x 10 photographs by Fonteyn and Nureyev, the first depicting Fonteyn standing in a half-length ballet pose with her arms and hands outstretched above her head. Photograph by Houston Rogers of London and bearing his credit stamp to the verso. Signed ('Margot Fonteyn Arias') by Fonteyn in blue ink to the image and dated 1969 in her hand. The signature is a little light, although reasonably legible. The second photograph depicts Nureyev in a candid pose standing outdoors in a half length pose and holding a single flower in one hand. DISNEY WALT: (1901-1966) American animator, Academy Award winner. An excellent vintage bold black ink signature ('Walt Disney') on an 8vo page removed from an autograph album. Some minor show through at the head of the page caused by the ink signature of opera singer Kirsten Flagstad to the verso, and one small, minor stain close to the paraph of Disney's signature. VG
HITCHCOCK ALFRED: (1899-1980) English film director. Vintage signed 5.5 x 7 photograph of the director in a half-length pose with his arms leaning on the back of a director's chair bearing his name ('Mr. Hitchcock') and with a large VistaVision camera in the immediate background. CODY W. F.: (1846-1917) American showman, known as 'Buffalo Bill'. An excellent, large vintage signed 7 x 10 cabinet photograph, the image depicting Cody in a head and shoulders pose wearing his Stetson hat. Photograph by Guigoni & Bossi of Milan and bearing their imprint to the lower mount and verso. Signed by Cody in bold, dark purple ink across a light area at the head of the image, 'To American friend in Austria Dr. [the name partially erased] W. F. Cody, Buffalo Bill' and dated Vienna, 7th May 1896 in his hand. A couple of light scuffs to the image, predominantly where the original recipient's surname has been partially erased, otherwise VG Buffalo Bill's Wild West shows toured Europe eight times, the first four tours between 1887-92 and the last four from 1902-06.
HEPWORTH BARBARA: (1903-1975) English sculptor. An excellent vintage signed 5 x 8 photograph, the image depicting Hepworth's sculpture Bicentric Form resting outdoors on a wooden plinth. Photograph by Studio St. Ives Ltd. Signed ('Barbara Hepworth') in dark fountain pen ink to the verso, also adding the title and date etc. of the work in her hand, ' “Bicentric Form 1949-50”, blue marble, purchased by the Tate Gallery'. Unusual in this form. VGBicentric Form was one of the first sculptures Hepworth produced in the garden of her Trewyn Studio and it became the first of her sculptures to enter the Tate collection when it was acquired in 1950.
COURBET GUSTAVE: (1819-1877) French painter who led the Realism movement in 19th century French painting. A good vintage signed carte-de-visite photograph, the sepia albumen print by an unidentified photographer depicting Courbet seated in a three-quarter length pose. Signed ('G. Courbet') in dark fountain pen ink with his name alone to the lower photographer's mount.
