THE SPEYSIDE 1993 VINTAGE LIMITED EDITION SPEYSIDE SINGLE MALT Is it confusing to name a whisky distillery after the region it’s situated in? Considering the Speyside region contains more than half of all Scottish whisky distilleries, trying to search online for expressions from The Speyside distillery can be akin to hunting for a needle in a pile of needles. Although, to be fair, this was probably less of a consideration when the distillery began production in 1990.The brand underwent a re-vamp in 2014, now simply named “Spey”, and was re-launched with a focus on the Taiwanese market. To promote this new range the company recruited English football superstar Michael Owen to star in a TV ad campaign that is well worth seeking out on YouTube.Distilled: 199340% ABV / 70cl

GLENFIDDICH 1976 31 YEAR OLD VINTAGE RESERVE CASK #516 SPEYSIDE SINGLE MALT Without Glenfiddich, Scotland might not enjoy the same thriving whisky scene it has today. Founded in 1886 by William Grant, and still family owned, Glenfiddich was one of the first distilleries to seriously market single malt whisky as a credible alternative to blends. This decision was prompted by a dispute with their grain supplier in 1963, leading to a scaling back in production of their Grant’s blend. By the late 1960s Glenfiddich single malt was a firm hit with the Jet Set, who were picking it up in their droves from the newly emerging Duty-Free market. That early prescience clearly paid off, as (despite strong competition from fellow Speyside giants Glenlivet and Macallan) Glenfiddich is consistently the best-selling single malt in the world, shifting over 1 million cases every year.Distilled: 16/01/1976Bottle Number: 307 / 51651.9% ABV / 70cl
