Two file holes to the left edge, minor surface creases and light age wear, not affecting the signature. Together with a second blue ink signature ('Duke Ellington') and inscription to an 8vo card. Neatly trimmed at the foot, only very slightly affecting the signature. Also including a third blue ink signature ('Duke Ellington'), to a small press cutting regarding Ellington. ARMSTRONG LOUIS: (1901-1971) American Jazz Trumpeter. An excellent vintage signed and inscribed 7½ x 9 photograph depicting Armstrong in a head and shoulders pose. Signed in bold green fountain pen ink by Armstrong with both forms of his signature ('Louis Armstrong' and 'Satchmo') to clear areas of the image. Neatly mounted to a page removed from a photograph album, annotated in the hand of a collector at the head, 'Gatineau Club Hull PQ'. Some very minor age wear. Together with an unsigned 10 x 8 photograph, the image depicting Armstrong seated in an animated half-length pose, with a photographer by his side. McCARTNEY PAUL: (1942- ) British Musician, a member of The Beatles. A vintage 8vo Beatles writing pad produced by NEMS Enterprises Ltd for F. W. Woolworth & Co. Ltd., the colour cover featuring an image of The Beatles standing and seated together in full length poses and the inside containing feint ruled sheets of notepaper (only the first page with a two word ink annotation in the hand of a previous owner). Signed by McCartney in bold black ink in recent years to a light area of the image. Some light scuffing and age wear and one very small, minor tear to the left edge of the cover, otherwise about VG

THEM: Vintage signed 8vo feint ruled page by all five members of Them individually, including Van Morrison, Alan Henderson, Peter Bardens, Terry Noon and one other. Signed in bold blue inks, with Bardens further adding the band's name, 'Them' to the centre of the page. Two file holes to the left edge, signs of former mounting the verso and some light surface creases and Sellotape residue to the upper edge, none of which affects the signatures. G

PINK FLOYD: An extremely rare set of vintage blue fountain pen ink signatures by four of the original members of the English rock band Pink Floyd, comprising Roger Waters ('Rog'), Richard Wright ('Rick x'), Syd Barrett ('Syd xx') and Nick Mason ('To Ella, love from the Pink Floyd, Nick'), on an irregularly trimmed feint ruled piece, laid down at the centre of a small 4to page removed from a notebook. Above and below the signatures appear two small newspaper photographs of the band, both signed by each of the four members in blue inks with their first names (some of the signatures across darker areas and a few barely legible), and each laid down to the page. Some light staining to the piece, only very slightly affecting the signatures, evidently caused by the glue used at the time of the original mounting. Two file holes to the left edge, not affecting the signatures or images, about G The present set of signatures most likely date from 1966 when the band played very small and largely unadvertised shows at the Marquee Club in London, where there were generally no more than fifty fans in attendance.
BOWIE DAVID: (1947-2016) English Musician and Actor. A rare, early vintage black ink signature ('David Bowie xxx') on a small 4to feint ruled page removed from a notebook, also signed and inscribed by the four members of Bowie's backing band The Buzz, comprising John Eager, John Hutchinson ('Hutch'), Derek Fearnley ('Dek') and Derrick Boyes ('Chow'). A second vintage bold purple ink signature ('Hairs to you. Love Davie') by Bowie on an irregularly clipped piece has been laid down to the page and to the lower right corner a small selection of short strands of Bowie's hair are affixed with sellotape. Two file holes to the left edge, not affecting the signatures, and with some light age wear, G The Buzz were formed by Bowie in February 1966, with auditions being held at the Marquee Club. The band recorded just two singles with Bowie, Do Anything You Say (the first single to be credited to Bowie alone, despite the contribution of the band) which failed to chart, and I Dig Everything before parting company following their final gig in December 1966. Provenance: The present signatures and strands of Bowie's hair were obtained in person by the vendor in early March 1966 when the singer and his backing band performed in Bournemouth.
BOWIE DAVID: (1947-2016) English Musician and Actor. A rare, early vintage bold black ink signature ('Thanks David Bowie xxx') on a small 8vo page neatly laid down to a small 4to feint ruled page removed from a notebook. Alongside Bowie's signature appears a newspaper article with the headline 'Bowie's record does not deserve to die', being a positive critique of the single 'Can't Help Thinking About Me'. About VG Can't Help Thinking About Me, was written by Bowie in 1965 and released as a single under the name David Bowie with The Lower Third in January 1966. This was the first single released after he changed his name from David (or Davie) Jones to David Bowie.
VALLI ALIDA: (1921-2006) Italian Actress, famous for her roles in Alfred Hitchcock's The Paradine Case and Carol Reed's The Third Man. A good vintage signed and inscribed 7 x 9.5 photograph, a close-up portrait of the actress. Signed ('Valli') in bold, dark fountain pen ink to a light area at the base of the image and dated Hollywood, October 1947 in her hand. Some slight silvering to the upper edges of the image and some minor traces of former mounting to the verso, otherwise VG
CAMPBELL MALCOLM: (1885-1948) British Land & Water Speed Record Holder. A vintage signed short snorter, being a One Rupee bank note issued by the Government of India, signed by Campbell in bold, dark fountain pen ink to a clear area and dated 7th July 1945 in his hand. Some very light, extremely minor age wear and one very small hole close to, but not affecting, the signature. About VG
MCLAREN BRUCE: (1937-1970) New Zealand Motor Racing Driver, founder of the McLaren Racing Team, one of the most successful in Formula One Championship history. A good vintage signed 6 x 4 photograph of McLaren driving one of his racing cars on a circuit. Signed in blue ink with his name alone to a clear area of the image. Neatly mounted, otherwise VG

A good vintage signed and inscribed 6 x 8 photograph of Milburn in a head and shoulders pose wearing his striped Newcastle United jersey. Signed in bold blue fountain pen ink at the base of the image, a few letters of the signature running across darker areas. Together with Joe Harvey (1918-1989) English Footballer associated with Newcastle United; the club's longest serving Captain who led the team to FA Cup victories in 1951 & 1952. Vintage signed and inscribed 6 x 8 photograph of Harvey in a head and shoulders pose wearing his striped Newcastle United jersey. Signed in blue ink at the base of the image with a slightly light signature partially running across a darker area. Harvey has added Newcastle United FC and the date, 1952, in his hand beneath his signature. Also including H. W. Austin (1906-2000) English Tennis Player, Wimbledon finalist in 1932 & 1938. EVANS EDWARD R. G. R.: (1881-1957) British Naval officer and Antarctic Explorer. Evans served as second-in-command on Robert Falcon Scott's ill-fated expedition to the South Pole 1910-13 and as Captain of the expedition ship Terra Nova. A good original dark blue pen and ink sketch drawn and signed by Evans on a 12mo card, the image depicting a penguin standing contentedly on a piece of floating ice. Signed ('E R G R Evans') at the base. Lightly mounted to a page removed from an autograph album. Together with individual vintage fountain pen ink signed pieces by the cricketers Clarrie Grimmett and Denis Compton and the film actress Maureen O'Hara. Inscribed (2). Vintage signed 4 x 6 photograph of the young actress in a head and shoulders pose. Signed in bold, dark fountain pen ink to the lower border. EPSTEIN JACOB: (1880-1959) American-born British Sculptor. A good vintage signed and inscribed 10.5 x 15 photograph, the image depicting Epstein's lifesize bronze sculpture entitled The Visitation (1926). Photograph by Paul Laib and bearing his credit stamp to the verso. Signed by Epstein in dark fountain pen ink to the lower photographer's mount and inscribed to C. P. Scott. Some light creasing, age toning and minor foxing to the photographer's mount, only very slightly affecting Epstein's inscription but not the signature, G The Visitation had originally been intended to be a pair of sculptures, however Epstein only completed one piece. The Tate Gallery acquired the sculpture in 1927 and their exhibition label of 2004 stated that ‘Epstein described this figure as expressing ' a humility so profound as to shame the beholder who comes to my sculpture expecting rhetoric or splendour of gesture'. Vintage signed and inscribed postcard photograph by both Curtis and Leigh individually, the image depicting them in a close head and shoulders pose together in costume as Myles Falworth and Lady Anne of Mackworth in a scene from The Black Shield of Falworth (1954). Issued by Picturegoer and numbered D528. Signed by both Curtis (with his full name Anthony Curtis) and Leigh (who adds an inscription in her hand) in blue inks to a light area of the image.
