Some light age wear and minor silvering to the image and with heavy traces of former mounting to the verso, GIn 1925 Swanson starred as Catherine Hubscher in the silent romantic costume comedy-drama film Madame Sans-Gene, which was shot entirely in France and directed by Leonce Perret.

[TAGORE RABINDRANATH]: (1861-1941) Bengali poet, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1913. An original vintage unsigned 4 x 6 press photograph, the image depicting Tagore seated in a full-length pose and holding a catalogue in one hand. Tagore is flanked either side by Anna, Comtesse de Noailles, and her husband Mathieu Fernand Frédéric Pascal de Noailles, who both stand in full-length poses. Hanging on the wall in the background is one of Tagore´s paintings, being displayed as part of an exhibition of his artworks held in a Paris art gallery in May 1930. With a French text printed caption to the verso, as well as the wet stamp of Georges Devred of Agence Rol, Paris. Very slightly neatly trimmed to the edges, otherwise VGTagore had left Bengal in early 1930 for an almost year-long tour of Europe and the United States during which time he held exhibitions of his paintings in Paris and London.Anna de Noailles (1876-1933) French writer and poet of Romanian and Greek descent, and a socialist feminist. Anna de Noailles married Mathieu Fernand Frédéric Pascal de Noailles (1873–1942) in 1897 and the couple soon became the toast of Parisian high society. The Rol Agency was a photographic reporting agency that existed between 1904 and 1937 and which employed photographer Georges Devred (1887-1932) from 1911, Devred serving as director of the agency from 1923-32.

[WORLD WAR II]: A pair of original vintage printed 8vo Safe Conduct passes issued after 1944 to German soldiers who desired to surrender to the Allied Forces, printed in red and black and with text in German and English, ´The German soldier who carries this safe conduct is using it as a sign of his genuine wish to give himself up. He is to be disarmed, to be well looked after, to receive food and medical attention as required, and to be removed from the danger zone as soon as possible´, also featuring the facsimile signatures of Dwight Eisenhower, Supreme Commander, Allied Expeditionary Force. To the verso appears entirely German text detailing the rules for the care of prisoners of war as dictated by the Geneva Convention of 1929, and also providing guidance upon the correct manner in which to surrender. One of the passes is overprinted with the words Gultig auch fur Volkssturm (Translation: ´Also valid for Volkssturm´), the Volkssturm being the levee en masse national militia established on the orders of Adolf Hitler during the final months of World War II. THREE STOOGES THE: An excellent vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph by all three members of the American comedy team The Three Stooges individually, comprising Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly-Joe DeRita, the image depicting the three slapstick comedians in full-length poses together as they perform a routine, each wearing identical tuxedos and top hats, the original Columbia Pictures publicity portrait issued for the science fiction comedy film Have Rocket, Will Travel (1959). Vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph, an unusual image of Crawford seated in a three-quarter length pose in her dressing room knitting clothes during a break in the filming of the American film noir drama Flamingo Road (1949) in which the actress portrayed Lane Bellamy, a former carnival dancer. Signed by Crawford in purple fountain pen ink to the image, also incorporating her character name, ´To George, from "Lane Bellamy", Joan Crawford´. VG

MULLER RENATE: (1906-1937) German actress and singer, courted by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party during the 1930's. Muller's sudden death, at the young age of 31, remains a mystery, some believing that she was murdered by Gestapo officers. GRENFELL JOYCE: (1910-1979) English diseuse and comedy actress, remembered for her performances in the St. Trinian´s series of films. A good signed 8 x 10 photograph, the original vintage publicity portrait depicting Grenfell in a head and shoulders pose in costume as the policewoman Sergeant Ruby Gates, taking notes, from the British comedy film Blue Murder at St. Trinian´s (1957). Signed by Grenfell in bold blue ink with her name alone to a largely light area of the image. A pencil annotation in the hand of a collector to the verso indicates that the signature was obtained in person following Grenfell´s appearance on the WOR radio chat show hosted by Arlene Francis in New York on 19th October 1977. A good vintage signed 8 x 10 photograph of Brambell in a head and shoulders pose in costume as the grubby rag-and-bone man Albert Steptoe and holding a cigarette in one hand. Signed in blue ink to a clear area of the background at the head of the image; Harry H. Corbett (1925-1982) English actor and comedian, best remembered for his portrayal of Harold Steptoe in Steptoe and Son. Signed 8 x 10 photograph of Corbett in a head and shoulders pose. Signed in black ink to a light area at the base of the image. One very small, light stain close to the conclusion of the signature. KENDALL KAY: (1927-1959) English actress. A scarce vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Kendall in a head and shoulders pose resting her chin on one hand, the original British Lion Film Corporation publicity portrait issued at the time of Kendall´s appearance as Monica Hathaway in the British comedy film The Constant Husband (1955). Signed by Kendall in bold blue fountain pen ink to a largely lighter area of the image, with the inscription across a darker area. Signed photographs of Kendall are scarce as a result of her untimely death at the young age of 32. Some very slight, extremely minor surface and corner creasing, VGIt was during the filming of The Constant Husband that Kendall began a romantic relationship with her co-star, Rex Harrison, and the two were married in 1957. Harrison cared for his wife, who had been diagnosed with myeloid leukaemia, until her death in 1959.

I REMEMBER MAMA: A good vintage signed 10 x 8 photograph by both Oscar Homolka (Uncle Chris Halvorsen) and Barbara O´Neil (Jessie Brown) individually, the image depicting the actors in half-length poses in a scene from the American drama film I Remember Mama (1948). Signed by each in fountain pen inks with their names alone to largely light areas of the image. Rare in this form. Homolka was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in this film. One crease to the upper left corner, otherwise VGBarbara O´Neil (1910-1980) portrayed Ellen O´Hara, the mother of Scarlett, in Gone with the Wind (1939) and is a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nominee.
