Fine large and impressive English ebonised triple fusee bracket clock, the 11" silvered chapter ring signed J.C. Jennens, London enclosing a matted centre over an arched panel applied in relief with the figure of Father Time seated over a silvered plaque inscribed Tempus Fugit, the substantial movement with pull repeat and playing on a nest of eight bells, with hourly strike on a gong, the stylised foliate engraved back plate also signed J.C. Jennens, London, with locking pendulum and sunburst engraved bob within an impressive ormolu mounted stepped case with moulded arched square caddy top surmounted by a pineapple finial, 38" high (pendulum, winding and door keys)** This clock is in superb condition after a recent complete professional overhaul. However the movement has developed a small problem since that needs correcting and is explained in more detail in the condition report. The clock is illustrated in Britten's - Old Clocks & Watches, ninth edition, page 500, where it is listed as Jennens, J.C., c1790, London, chiming bracket clock (The Hague)
Fine and very rare English brass verge winged hook and spike lantern clock by or from the workshops of Edward East and signed Eduardus East Londini on the front fret, the three train posted movement striking on two bells, with verge escapement and anchor shaped bob oscillating between the plates, the 6.5" silvered chapter ring with hour and minutes chapter rings, enclosing a centre finely engraved with tulips and with central alarm dial and two iron hands, surmounted by pierced and engraved tulip frets, strapwork two bells and finial, 15.5" high (anchor shaped pendulum, three principal weights and an alarm weight); also with an associated antique carved oak bracket **This clock is sold with copious articles and letters from knowledgeable lantern clock experts who all agree that the clock was either made by or in the workshops of Edward East This clock was featured in two articles written by Brian Loomes in Clocks magazine in the October and November 2020 issues. Copies of these two magazines are included with the lot. Also included is the correspondence relating to this clock from Michael Turner at Sotheby's, David Thompson at The British Museum and Sir George White BT., F.S.A. when he was consultant keeper of the collection and library of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in London This clock was also sold by Sotheby's in their auction of Important Clocks, Watches, Wristwatches and Barometers on Thursday 13th October 1988 (lot 191) and a copy of this catalogue is included too There has also been a metallurgy test undertaken on the clock and a copy of this report is also included

A George II mahogany longcase equation clock, 33.5cm arched brass dial with silvered chapter ring inscribed William Scafe, London, the arch with rotating orb delineated to demonstrate the current difference between solar and mean time, Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, twin winding holes, eight-day movement striking the previous hour on two bells at the half hour, the flat topped hood with moulded cornice, rectangular door to waist, outlined throughout with boxwood stringing, ogee bracket feet, 214cm high, 52.5cm wide, 27cm deep, c.1745William Scafe, an eminent maker of considerable repute, was born son of a blacksmith at Bushley, Yorkshire in 1687, and was apprenticed to his father before moving to London c.1710 setting up in at the sign of the Clock in King Street later moving to Milk Street, Cheapside, and becoming free of the Clockmakers' Company in 1721, and served as its master 1749-1764. He had apprentices in 1735 and 1748 dying in 1765 (will proved 7th June). Despite his unusually long career, his clocks are remarkably scarce [see Loomes, B., The Mystery of William Scafe in Clocks Magazine (Jan. 1988) 16-18]

Inlaid mahogany longcase clock, the hood with architectural pediment, turned Corinthian columns, trunk with long door and ogee bracket feet, twelve inch arched painted with with hunting scene to the lunette and floral spandrels, signed Shepperley & Pearce, Nottingha, eight day movement striking on a bell, height 219cm, with pendulum and weights.Condition report:Thr hood has a short crack to the rightside, and a split to the bottom right rim of the hood. The main body of the clock is a little rubbed and scrached on the edges. The front door is warped and does not sit flat when closed. The base has a long crack just above where the inlay design is. The sides are a bit scrached in places. The face enamel is crazed all over and has some small chips to the edges and corners. It is sold as untested. The finial to the top of the hood is missing. Comes with pendulim and weights.
