Lot 326

A Mahogany Cased Regency Period 8 Day Bracket Clock By Henry Favre Of Pall Mall. The pad top mahogany case is raised on four brass ball feet and has an arched brass fish scale fret work panel over deep red silk to each side, with a brass carry handle to the top. The clock has a white painted arch topped dial which is marked by Roman numerals with a strike and silent function to the top and the name Henry Favre Pall Mall to the centre. The clock has a pull cord repeat function which comes from the side of the case. The movement can be viewed through the rear glazed door and is engraved to the border of the back plate, the centre of the back plate is also engraved with the makers name and place. Henry Favre was watchmaker to the Prince Regent and the Duke of York and is recorded working in Pall Mall London between 1800 - 1818.

A George III Mahogany And Brass Bracket Clock With Silvered Dial Engraved with the name George Pyke, London. 26cm wide, 44cm high and 15cm deep. With Key. The Mahogany body has arched fret work panels to each side, with a glazed door to the rear. It is raised on four brass bracket feet, with four brass finials to the top of each corner, a brass handle to the top and a brass framed glass door that covers the the dial. The silvered dial is marked by the hour with Roman numerals and by the minute with Arabic numbers. To the lower centre of the dial is a date marker, above which is engraved 'George Pyke London'.  The double fusee movement can be wound using the key at the front of the dial where the key holes are, just below the pendulum viewing slit. The clock strikes on the hour. Son of the 18th century clock maker John Pyke, George Pyke became a famous clockmaker in his own right, becoming clockmaker to His Majesty King George III himself. A famous example of his work lies in Leeds Temple Newsam House, a beautiful musical automaton clock dated 1765, known as 'The George Pyke Clock'. Condition Over all in good antique condition, some signs of light restoration to the body with some minor knocks and scratches in places. The movement works after winding and prompting but would benefit from a professional clean and service.

A George III quarter-chiming longcase clock by Thomas Richardson of Weverham The mahogany case with a swan neck pediment and inset with reverse painted glass panels, the arching door flanked by fluted outset columns above a crossbanded door to the trunk flanked by pilaster columns, all on a plinth base and bracket feet. The arching dial with moon phase painted spandrels representing the four seasons, centrally decorated with Britannia standing by a harbour. The dial with a subsidiary second hand and signed by the maker. The three train movement chiming on a carillon of six bells and a further bell for the hours.Thomas Richardson of Weaverham is noted in F J Britten as having made another clock circa 1780 with the inscription around the arch of the dial "That Man is Yet Unborn Who Duly Weighs an Hour". 61cm diameter x 28cm deep x 233.5cm high Qty: 1 The dial in good condition. The movement clean and complete but not guaranteed working. The case with some signs of repair, particularly to some elements of moulding around the top. Two of the three inset glass panels with cracks. A crack to the main glass covering the dial. Further minor marks, dents and scratches overall due to age and use. Some minor signs of old woodworm. A hairline split down the centre of the trunk door an further splits to the plinth base. Complete with pendulum and weights.
