A 19th Century Mahogany Cased Mantel Timepiece, the 3.75ins diameter white enamel dial with Roman numerals to the chain and fusee movement, contained in case with pointed arch top, inlaid with brass ornament, on rectangular base with ball feet, 10.75ins highExternally the clock presents in good honest condition showing some patination and marks commensurate with age and moderate usage. The brass inlays are all complete, correct and free from damage. The four ball feet are in good condition but the gilding is poor. There is some veneer missing to the rear on the top left hand corner approximately 15mm x 10mm. The rear door functions correctly and the hinges appear original. However the glass to the rear door is cracked diagonally from the top to around 1.5ins down from the right hand side. The mechanism has been quite crudely re-fitted into the body where one bracket has been replaced with epoxy resin as opposed to the correct screw method. The mechanism appears complete but we cannot warrant originality. The pendulum is present, tjhe key is present and the clock winds, runs and sets but should be regarded as untested. The dial has multiple hairline cracks particularly around the 7 to 8 o'clock area, the largest one extending some 2ins across the dial. The black Roman numerals appear to be original and concise, likewise the hands appear to be original. Prospective bidders are strongly advised to study all images closely prior to bidding.
