A mid 19c English bracket clock by Matthews of Penrith with double fusee movement striking on a bell and having a 5" diameter silvered convex dial. It is contained in a Gothic style bronzed mantel case with castellated top and Gothic tracery to the sides and front. The base has cast scroll feet and the top is surmounted with three Gothic finials, 16" tall overall.
A late 18c eight day longcase clock , the 13.5" arched brass dial signed John Smith, Chester and having a moon phase dial in the arch, scroll spandrels and a silver and engraved dial centre, with seconds and date indicators and unmatched steel hands. The four pillar movement is rack striking with anchor escapement and is contained in a mahogany case with swan neck pediment to the hood and fluted columns flanking the dial. The trunk has fluted quarter columns and a long trunk door with wavy top and crossbanded edge moulding. The base has canted fluted corners and a raised central panel with indented corners and a bracket foot plinth, 94" tall overall.
A Victorian oak longcase clock with an eight day movement striking on a bell, the square brass dial and silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, and subsidiary seconds cornered by pierced scroll spandrels, the swan neck pediment with an acorn finial above a glazed door flanked by turned columns, the case with profusely carved floral and foliate decoration, on bracket feet, with pendulum, two weights and winding key, height approx 214cm.

A George III mahogany crossbanded oak longcase clock, 33cm arched painted dial. convex Arabic chapter, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, floral spandrels, Adam and Eve automaton to arch, twin winding holes, signed Mawkes/Derby, the eight day movement striking on a bell, hood with swan neck cornice terminating in brass stamped roundels, centred with a ball and spire finial, turned columns, shaped door to waist flanked by canted angles, outswept base, bracket feet, 218cm high, c.1830 ***William Mawkes was the fourth son of Thomas Mawkes (1740-1821) a former apprentice and employee of the celebrated John Whitehurst, FRS. William, who was born in 1782, worked with his father until his death and then on his own account until c. 1830. This is the first recorded example of an automaton clock by this maker.
