The case 41cm High, excluding handle. The movement striking onto a bell; adjustable pendulum and key; No makers marks. Generally good condition, small veneer split below rear hinges and small losses both grille frames Provenance: 70 lots in this auction (and in particular the next 35 lots) are being sold on behalf of family executors, of a local Gentleman, with an interesting biography relating to many lots being offered ? Engineering, Aircraft, Cars, Trains, Clocks, Woodworking: Derek Straker Moxley, JP served as a WW2 aircraft engine technician.After the war, he became a Magistrate in Monmouthshire. He pursued his engineering interests firstly through cars before becoming involved with the Great Western Society at Hereford and the restoration of the famous steam locomotive King George V. On moving to Somerset in the late 1970s, he joined and later becoming President of the Society of Friends of the Fleet Air Arm Museum where he was part of the aircraft Restoration Group and worked on a number of plane exhibits for the museum, including a Fairey Albacore torpedo bomber (N4389). When restoration work ceased, Derek encouraged members of the group to become involved in aircraft restoration at the RAF Locking Helicopter Museum near Weston-Super-Mare where he restored a 1950s De Havilland Gypsy Major piston engine. Throughout he accumulated an extensive collection of technical and reference books and manuals from the different aircraft engines he worked on. An active member of the Dorset Clock Society for many years. Derek took great pride in his workshop and amassed a vast array of tools and machinery, and had many articles in the Model Engineer or The Woodworker magazines.

GEORGE II MAHOGANY MONTH-GOING LONGCASE CLOCK, DANIEL OR NATHANIEL DELANDER, LONDON 1730s the engraved silvered brass dial with Roman hours and subsidiary seconds dial with bolt and shutter maintaining power lever and winder cover, with a Duplex escapement, signed 'Delander/ London', the hood with a shaped and moulded cornice with reeded block finials and scroll brackets, and flanked by canted angles with brass lined stop fluting, above a shaped trunk door flanked by stop fluted quarter columns with brass capitals, on a plinth base outlined with moulding and raised on bracket feet; the month-going movement with duplex escapement with bolt and shutter retaining power(47cm wide, 207cm high, 25cm deep)Footnote: Note: The Delander family of clockmakers spanned several generations from the 17th into the latter 18th century, and produced superbly crafted and innovative clocks and timepieces. Arguably the most famous of the Delanders was Daniel, who was an inventor as well as a highly skilled clockmaker. He was apprenticed in 1692 to Charles Halstead and, later, to Thomas Tompion and became a member of the Clockmakers' Company in 1699. Among his innovations were a patented watch case spring closing mechanism, and a year-going equation. He is credited with improving the duplex escapement so that it could be used in longcase clocks. He died in 1733 and his son Nathaniel, also a highly respected maker, succeeded him, working until 1762. Y A William IV rosewood cased bracket clock, Taylor, Bristol, circa 1835, the eight-day bell striking movement with 9.5inch brass Roman numeral dial inscribed for the maker to the centre, the case with pagoda top and moulded and panelled base with flanking scrolls, 53cm high, together with a rosewood bracket, circa 1835 and later, 36cm high, 37cm wide, 21cm deep Condition Report: The case with marks, knocks, scratches, consistent with age and use, old splits and cracks especially to he pagoda. the pagoda top has broken off - this is present with the lot, this will require restoration, there are signs of old glue in this area from previous repair. Signs of polish residue tot he the timber near the dial, the centre of the dial with area of wear.The clock will tick when wound, and the movement appears to have been cleaned fairly recently - but Dreweatts have not tested the movement and cannot make any guarantees or comments as to accuracy or if the movement is working we suggest getting the clock appraised by a professional clock restorer prior to use. With winding key, pendulum. Two case keys present but these do not appear to operate any of the locks, the front bezel is closed and locked shut, the rear door is open. The repeat cord is missing but the mechanism is still in place and works. The dial has some general wear to the painted finish and minor chips and has been touched in . The case has a piece of brass stringing loose on the top right hand side and a chip to the left top - see extra images.The movement is un-signed but appears to be correct to the case. The case width is 29 cm wide at the base and 26.5 cm at the trunk.

The rear of the case is bleached by the sun and the bottom of the rear door has a slice of mahogany missing.- see extra imagesOn further inspection by our clock specialist we have now moved the base board of the movement (which had slipped backward) allowing the free travel of the pendulum and the clock is now working
