An 18th century figured mahogany longcase clock by Thomas Atkinson Ormskirk dated 1778, the hood with blind fret pediment and lacquered glass panels, labelled "Martin Ormskirk", turned and reeded side columns, the trunk with full length door, blind fret panels and 1/4 turned and reeded side columns, having arched painted dial with moonphase to the arch with 8 day striking movement, ht 230cm.The case is in quite good condition.  The glass panel with name, situated between the two hood swan necks, is cracked.  The dial is fairly faded and requires work; the hour hand has the end broken off. A nice looking clock though.WE TAKE GREAT CARE in the accuracy of our condition reports and may record damage and restoration if obvious. AN OAK AND MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK CIRCA 1780, THOMAS READ, TARPORLEY The eight-day bell striking movement with 13inch arched dial, with moon-phase automaton and silvered Roman numeral chapter ring, signed Thos Read, Tarporley to the centre, the case of traditional 'North Country' form with fluted columns to the hood and quarter columns to the trunk 220cm high overall Condition Report: The case with marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use old splits and cracks, chips and losses, one piece of moulding missing to the apron above the plinth - this is missing in the catalogue image and has never been present at Dreweatts.The seat board is later pine, the tops of the cheeks also with an inset piece of later timber - the cheeks appear to be the right height, the movement and mask fill the hood and the arch, the sides of the cheeks are grooved and the hood has been sliding in and out here for a long time - there is no clear indications that the elements aren't original. They have had some repairs and restorations, the rear boards with numerous holes The case of North Country (Cheshire/Lancashire) type and certainly in keeping with the dial's area of manufactureThe freize with blue glass inserts, these have breaks and are possibly replacements in any caseThe movement has been cleaned, the gut strings replaced with wire, the bell looks like it might be a later replacement, there is a pendulum, two weights and a winding key all present. the dial with pitting and spotting, small loss to the black numeral on the II (2)Dreweatts haven't tested the movement and give no comments as to accuracy or longevity Please see additional images for visual reference to condition Condition Report Disclaimer
