A large mahogany wall clock, William New, Trowbridge, with Roman numeral dial, associated single fusee movement with verge escapement, 49cm in diameter. Condition - fair to good, not tested, Dial with light craquelure, not serious; dial believed to be metal, not wood; not repainted and with fine craquelure; glass and hands good; the frame’s drop-door with lifted and missing sections - attention needed; box-back good although one of the four securing pegs missing. Movement and plates appear fresh and bright; no missing parts noted but movement does not have a key. Movement believed to be associated with some unexplained screwholes; has been wound and appears to be working over four hours, but not guaranteed. Age late 18th century. New pillars have been attached to the rear of the dial.

Tiffany & Co 8 Day Easel Back Desk Clock. Measures 12cm by 12cm c1920. In working order. The clock is one of the few Tiffany& Co. clocks to feature numbers instead of numerals. Clock case made by the Brandt Brothers in Bienne, Switzerland. Founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young in Brooklyn, Connecticut in 1837 the company has grown to become a name synonymous with luxury. Trademark on easel of a dove with olive branch first registered by the watch case company “Fabrique de Boites La Centrale” of Bienne on 24 April 1922. The registration drawing with No. 154 shows that this existing mark was entered into the central register in 1934 when the Swiss systems of Poinçons de Maître was centralised in 1934. La Centrale was founded by the Brandt brothers in a factory building that they had initially rented and then purchased from Schneider & Perret-Gentil in 1880 as their first factory in Bienne. La Centrale was set up in this factory in 1896 to make watch cases for Omega.
