Circa 1880s French Jules Steiner Mechanical Doll with gilt coloured key to the left side, when wound causes the doll to kick her legs and arms, head moves from side to side and a 'Maman' sound is produced, a bisque socket head doll with short blond hair, fixed open blue eyes, open mouth, pierced ears, fabric covered torso and kid leather mounted lower torso to knees, composition jointed arms and lower legs, wearing a white cotton dress and straw bonnet, 44cm Jules Nicholas Steiner (1832-1902), he began his early career as a clock maker in Paris. By 1855 he was issued his first patent for a mechanical doll and in 1858 for a mechanical toy. From 1864 Steiner was advertising himself as a Specialised Doll and Toy Maker, his company Société Steiner was established in 1882. Face is dirty and slight scuffing, tiny chips to each pierced ear, brown rust mark to the canvas back, scuffing and wear to the composition arms and legs, tear to the kid leather and staining, teeth possibly pushed? Mechanism works but sluggish.

A French gilt and patinated bronze mantel timepiece, 19th century, in the form of a cherub riding a chariot drawn by a dragon, the winged cherub with billowing garment sat upon a rococo style chariot with scrolling foliate decoration and French Royal crest to reverse, being pulled by a writhing dragon with left claw outstretched, on a rococo style base with scrolling supports, the wheel fashioned as the dial with white enamel chapter ring and Arabic numerals, pierced scrolling floral centre and foliate gilt hands, stamped to underside of base 46520 35, the single train brass movement with platform escapement, the backplate stamped C.C.H., 25.5cm high, 36cm wide, 14.5cm deep Please note that Roseberys do not guarantee working order or time keeping of any automatic, mechanical, quartz or other timepiece offered for sale.The case with minor scratches and tarnishing to bronze, with some discolouration and some losses to gilding. There are very minor scratches to glass. Otherwise the case is in good condition.The backplate with some scratches and tarnishing. The movement is overwound so we would recommend taking to a clock restorer. The dial is sitting slightly loose in the bezel. There is no winder present with the clock.
