R.A.F. oak single fusee mantel clock, the movement back plate stamped Made by T. W. Elliott Ltd England, no. 16758/1941; also branded beneath the back door AM and no. 3140, the 8" convex silvered dial engraved with the RAF badge, within a rounded arched stepped case, 16" high *Made exclusively by Elliott for the Air Ministry for a short period when mantel clocks were urgently needed for an expanding RAF. Mantel clock cases were not available so Elliott modified mahogany dial clock back boxes and veneered them in oak. The rear plywood door and the civilian decorative clock hands are exclusive to this type of clock.
