Split and lifting to veneer front centre of the cornice. There is some oxidation and verdigris to the metal elements. Chips to edge of both winding holes and some small scratches to the dial. Veneer approx 1mm thick. Some evidence of repair or alteration to the screws inside. Split to the back panel veneer lefthand side. Some light wear, splits and small losses throughout, commensurate with age and use. See additional photos. Ticks and strikes when wound, however we are unable to gurantee that this represents full and complete working order and we would always recommend that clocks undergo at least a light service by the successful buyer.

A George II scarlet and gilt-japanned longcase clock, 18th century and later, the dial inscribed 'Richard Penn, London', the case decorated all over with chinoiserie motifs, 50cm wide 26cm deep 255cm highA Richard Penn is known to have been active as a clock and watchmaker in London c.1732-1780. Condition ReportEvidence of repair, restoration and some later elements throughout. The hood cornice and finials later. Probable cosmetic refreshment. The carcass appears to be made of pine and appears to have always been lacquered. Evidence of historic strengthening and repair to case. The case split where the trunk meets the base. The door lock later. We have no knowledge of the clock's history prior to consignment, so are unable to offer definitive comment as to whether or not the movement and case started life together. Evidence of repair and restoration to the face and movement, with the seatboard appearing later with modern screw fixing. A split to the bottom right-hand corner of the brass face. General wear to face and dial. The clock ticks and strikes when wound, and we understand it to have been running in the house prior to consignment, however we are unable to guarantee that this represents full and complete working order, and we have no knowledge of servicing history. The keys, weights and pendulum appear associated. Please see additional photos for further reference to condition.
