DAVID COMPIGNE OF WINTON; A George III oak longcase clock, the brass square dial set with silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals, inscribed "Compigne Winton", flanked by two ring turned pilasters above single door with circular glazed aperture, on pedestal base with ogee bracket feet, height 201cm. CONDITION REPORT: Dial size is 10.25 inches. There is a David Compigne clock maker listed as operating in Winchester in 1718. Nothing more is known about this clock maker. Dial and movement are associated to the case. The lower half of the plinth is replaced. There are some old repairs.
An 18th century French oak longcase clock, the hinged door with carved panels of floral swags and baskets flanked by fluted pilasters, the silvered circular chapter ring set with Roman numerals and a circular plaque engraved "J. Lanoy Montigny sur Sambre 1745" (for restoration). CONDITION REPORT: There is a clock maker of the name "La Noy" known to be operating in Paris in 1772.
A large quantity of Royal Albert "Old Country Roses" tea and dinner ware, including six dinner plates, six dessert plates, six side/tea plates, six bowls, a twin handled lidded circular tureen, six egg cups, two cruets, oval platter, large cheese board, cake stand, teapot, jug and bowl, bowls, clock etc, plus associated preserve pot and napkin rings by Majoy.
DERHAM, WILLIAM (1657-1737): "The Artificial Clock-Maker, A Treatise of Watch & Clock-work, wherein The Art of Calculating Numbers for most sorts of Movements is explained, to the Capacity of the Unlearned, Also, the History of Watch and Clockwork, Both Ancient and Modern With other Useful Matters never before Publish'd", the second edition enlarged, with additional supplement in the same volume, printed for James Knapton at the Crown in St Paul's Church-yard in 1700, with two musical notations for chimes to the main book (one separate) and two fold out illustration plates to the supplement, with two final pages of advertisements, including prices, of other books printed by Knapton, in contemporary binding (binding af), plus a Russian travelling clock and another. CONDITION REPORT: Volume appears to be complete as all the catchwords are intact. Also the pagination is correct except for page 13 of the supplement which appears to be erroneously numbered 31. Binding split and separate to front and thus both front cover and endpaper are separate but present. Split to binding at the back. Wear and foxing to the edges of the pages.
A George V hallmarked silver backed three piece dressing table set comprising a hand brush and pair of coat brushes with engine turned linear decoration and foliate scroll motifs, Finnigans Ltd of Manchester, Birmingham 1915, also a hallmarked silver fronted travel clock with velvet lined easel back, Carr's of Sheffield Ltd, Sheffield 1994, 7 x 5.5cm and a further similar chromed example (5).
A small Elizabeth II hallmarked silver fronted frame, with blue velvet easel back, Sheffield 1995, 12 x 9cm and two carving knives with hallmarked silver sheath handles in kings pattern, Sheffield 1965 and 1966 and a modern hallmarked silver fronted small clock with blue velvet easel back, Sheffield 1996, 6.5 x 5cm (4).
