An early 18th century Dutch figured walnut longcase clock, circa 1720, the hood with fret carved decoration, surmounted by three painted carved wooden figural finials, the bombe case enclosed by a panelled door, centred by a shaped lenticle, the arched brass dial having a silvered chapter ring, within pierced brass spandrels, subsidiary seconds and calendar niche, signed Roger Dunster, the twin train movement striking on a bell, bearing a plaque inside the door inscribed 'Presented as a token of friendship and high esteem to the Caledonian Insurance Company on the occasion of the opening of their new office building May 1937', 276cm high overall. Roger Dunster was born circa 1695 and started his career in London before moving to Amsterdam, where he formed a partnership with Christopher Clarke around 1722 and went on to become one of the most important clock makers in Holland at that time, before his death in 1747. Provenance: Removed from the corporate premises of a company where it had been since it was presented in 1937
