According to the family this clock once belonged to the family of Edward Bright (1721-1750) the so called Fat Man of Maldon, who at the time of his death is said to have weighed over forty seven stone, making him the fattest person in England at the time. He is still remembered in the town of Maldon by a sculpture, which captures the moment nine men fitted into his jacket, following a wager in 1751 at the Kings Head Inn in Maldon high street.Although we have no written provenance, the information is provided by the family of the estate of a well known historian and author. He owned the clock and purchased it sometime in the circa 1970's.
