A Superb quality burr Walnut cased 8 day Longcase Clock having subtle inlaid stringing design to the case, the arched hood flanked by brass terminating fluted columns, housing a good movement, engraved to the face 'Samuel Stevens, London' with matted centre, engraved detail around the date window, subsidiary second dial beneath the 12 o'clock position and strike/silent indicator in the arch. The silver chapter ring has Roman hour numerals and the minutes are engraved in Arabic numerals, the polished background to the corners embellished by cast, pierced spandrels of trailing foliage design with an inset face, presumably of 'Old Father Time'. The hood has side windows revealing the workings and the case has a shaped long door to the central section. The clock is 89" tall overall and the keys and the crank winder are present. The brass cased weights and the five turned pillars with annular bosses separating the brass plates of the movement are just two examples that testify to the quality of this timepiece which is believed to date from around 1760. The clock is in good running order.
