A Jaeger Le Coultre Atmos Classic VIII cal 528 brass mounted four glass mantel clock skeleton clock, 12cm white dial with Arabic numerals and baton markers, the movement signed LeCoultre/Switzer- land/unadjusted/fifteen 15 jewels, serial number 125864, 24cm high, c.1959. The Atmos clock, which runs from the expansion and contraction of a reservoir of ethyl chloride gas through external variation of temperature, was invented by Jean-Leon Reutter of Neuchatel, and patented in France in 1929 before production was taken over by LeCoultre in 1936, who perfected the Atmos clock, placed in full production in May 1939. The serial number of this example equates with a production date of October 1959.
