Mahogany thirty hour longcase clock, the 12" rural painted arched dial signed S. Shortman, Newnham to the centre under a calendar aperture, the case inlaid with boxwood lines and with short door flanked by canted sides, the hood surmounted by a moulded swan neck pediment and brass ball and spire finial, 86" high (pendulum and weight) *The front plate of the movement is stamped S.S. no. 16 1835 and the pendulum is also stamped. This will have been one of the first clocks that Samuel Shortman made at the age of around twenty

Good mahogany eight day longcase clock, the 12" silvered square dial signed Whitehurst & Son, Derby, with subsidiary seconds dial, the case of flame mahogany with rounded arched long door flanked by canted corners and the hood surmounted by a triangular pediment, 82" high (large wooden rod pendulum with calibration nut and pair of original weights indistinctly stamped, possibly IW or 18) This clock is also sold with the book by Maxwell Craven - John Whitehurst of Derby (Clockmaker & Scientist 1713-88) *The back of the dial is engraved with the date 1818 and the initials I.W. in a small triangle (for John Whitehurst). The movement has shouldered plates with rounded edges and baluster pillars. The back cock is of typical Whitehurst design
