A rare English porcelain crested oval dish, probably Flight Worcester or possibly early Coalport, enamelled to the centre with a crest and motto, the ground painted in underglaze blue with The Music pattern in cobalt and gilt diaper border and the shaped gilt rim, 34cm w, c1790. The crest is that of Hamilton . Slight wear and rubbing of the gilding, several minor flat chips to the rim at either end, on the reverse the glaze heavily speckled, on the crest there is a vertical scratch and between the tree and the motto is the faint outline of a coronet which being gilt has completely worn off. A rare dish which despite the faults described above has no restoration
