A rectangular porcelain plaque painted with a view of the Royal Western Hotel Bristol in the manner Doe and Rogers within neo-Rococo scroll and berry moulded frame richly gilt against a Brunswick blue ground titled to verso probably Chamberlain & Co Worcester 20cm wide circa 1840 (with stress cracks) The Royal Western Hotel College Place Bristol opened in 1839 to accommodate passengers en route to America via Brunel's S.S. Great Britain. The building ceased to be used as an hotel in 1855 and now houses offices behind the original facade
