Ernest Crofts R.A. (1847-1911), Cavalry on a Country Road, Signed, indistinctly inscribed on the stretcher verso, oil on canvas, 42cm by 33cm. Painter of battle scenes and a disciple of Meissonier. He chiefly painted the English Civil, the Napoleonic and the Franco-Prussian Wars. Among his famous works are "The Evening of the Battle of Waterloo", "The Morning of Waterloo", "Napoleon`s Last Attack" and "Charles II at White Ladies after the Battle of Worcester". He also achieved success as an illustrator. His studio sale was held at Christies December 11th 1911. See illustration

A Royal Worcester Porcelain Fruit Painted Dessert Plate, John Freeman, mid 20th century, with gadroon moulded undulating rim punctuated by shell motifs, painted with three apples, a bunch of green grapes and three purple grapes against a mossy bank, signed, black printed crown and wheel mark, gilder`s mark C56, 22.5cm diameter. Freeman was born in 1911 and joined the Royal Worcester factory in 1925. He became the senior fruit painter at the factory, and indeed was known as "The Fruit Machine" due to the speed of his output.
