A good long serving group of naval medals covering First and Second World Wars, to Commodore Robin Avelin Melhuish, R.I.M, R.I.N, R.N., who served in the convoys to Russia and received the Order of Kutuzov, 3rd Class (no longer with the group), comprising; Naval General Service Medal, clasp Persian Gulf 1909-14 (Lieut. R. A. Meluish R.I.M.S. Palinurus), 1914-15-Star (Lt., R.I.M.), War and Victory Medals (Lt. R.N.), 1939-45 and Atlantic Stars, oak leaves (2) for MiD, mounted (with new ribbons, on two brooches, very fine; Russia, Order of Kutuzov, 3rd class, ribbon only; Royal Humane Society, Bronze medal, 1916, (Lieut. R. A. Meluish, R.I.M. 11th May, 1916 very fine; The Royal Meteorological Society, Luke Howard Medal, 1900 [the second year of issue], by Messrs Pinches, bust of Howard three-quarters right, rev., legend and engraved inscription to "Cadet R. A. Melhuish of H.M.S. Worcester for the best essay on the Meteorology of the Indian Ocean, July 1900, 57mm, 98.8gms, very fine; with miniatures of N.G.S. and World War I and R.H.S. medals. MiD, 27 April, 1943 - Convoy JW51B, December 1942-January 1943. Commodore of Ocean Convoys, H.M.S. Eaglet, from Loch Ewe to Kola Inlet. This is the convoy that was engaged in the Battle of Barents Sea, 31 December, 1942. MiD, 24July, 1945 - Ocean Convoys, 1942-1945. Order of Kutuzov, 3rd class, ribbon only, 11 April, 1944, Services to USSR (only 3,328 3rd Class orders were awarded). Royal Humane Society:- "On the 11th May, 1916, a man fell overboard from a tug in the Shatt-el-Arab the depth being 20 feet and the current strong. Melhuish jumped in and supported him till they were able to get on board with lines." Luke Howard Medal awarded to cadets on H.M.S. Worcester between 1899-1923 The group is sold with a folder of family research and a copy of the privately printed "Commodore Robin Aveline Melhuish", by Arnold Melhuish [2012] is available during the public view.
A Royal Worcester cabinet plate signed and painted by Freeman, date code for 1951, decorated with a peony within cobalt and gilt borders, black printed factory marks, also two plates, the first decorated with a redstart by William Powell, signed, the second of a robin by Edward Townsend, signed, and a plate with scalloped edges and decorated with a goldfinch, signed 'I Williams', all 27cm diameter (4)
A Royal Worcester part dessert service model number 1426, date codes for 1893 and 1894, printed and painted with wild flowers and insects on a blush ivory ground, within scrolling gilt borders and with reticulated edges, printed monogram for Edward Raby to four comports and ten plates, to include; two oval comports, 14cm long, 7cm high, two pedestal comports, (one at fault) 22cm wide, 11cm high, two short comports, (one at fault) 22cm wide, 5.5cm high, and eleven plates, 21cm wide, also a similarly decorated vase, shape number 1021, date mark for 1898, 10.5cm high and another of bulbous reeded form on three short feet, factory mark smudged, 7.5cm high (19)
Worcester lidded jug a bowl, and a teabowl and saucer circa 1770 painted with `Rich Kakiemon` pattern, (5) jug height 14cm Condition report: the cream jug has a 3cm long crack as well as a flat chip to spout, the cover is possibly matched and has a rim chip and a chip to the flange. The teabowl has wear to the gilt on the rim, the saucer has a few leaves worn in the gilding. The bowl has very minor gilt wear in a few tiny places and a minor factory fault to the foot.
Samson cup and saucer and a teapot painted after Worcester originals with exotic birds on a blue scale ground, crescent and hatched square marks to bases, late 19th century (4) Condition report: The teapot lid flange and the rim of the base of the teapot have restorations, gilt wear to the edges and to the raised cartouches.
Royal Worcester coffee cup, saucer and a side plate hand painted with fallen fruit, signed by W. Powell, H. Stinton and R. Austin, date codes for 1929, 1927, 1928, (3) Condition report: large section of the plate broken and restuck, minor nick to footrim of the saucer, crazing to the base of the coffee cup.
A First Period Worcester porcelain dish of leaf shaped form enamelled in colours in the ‘Magician’ pattern with a Chinaman with arm raised before a table of blooms before a pair of attendant ladies, within a gilt embellished loop line and dot border, 21cm high, circa. 1765, slight wear to surface.
A Royal Worcester figure `The Curtsey`, modelled by Doughty, RW3360, circa 1952, black printed factory mark to base, together with two other Doughty Worcester figures, comprising `Little Grandmother`, RW4155, and `Teatime`, RW4160, both from The Worcester Children series, black printed factory marks to bases (minor faults).
