A 19th century Chamberlains Worcester 'Hollymount' hand painted poche vide, decorated with a central hand painted panel of a country house within setting, against a salmon seaweed ground, shell encrusted rim, upon a scroll base, 17cm wide (at fault) CONDITION REPORT: Sections of encrusting missing and chipped. Hand painted decoration in good condition. Gilt border showing slight wear however pretty good. Three stained rim descending hairline cracks. Crazed. Grubby.
A Royal Worcester figure of an oriental man, model number 837, on canted base, printed and impressed marks, impressed and painted marks, 17.5cm; with an Italian Bisque conversation group, of four figures dressed in 18th century attire, on oval base, 20cm high (some small losses) CONDITION REPORT: Impressed '837'. Registration mark. No obvious cracks or restoration. SEE IMAGES FOR CLARIFICATION.
A Royal Worcester hand painted cabinet plate, centrally decorated with a still life depicting pears and grapes within a gilt gadrooned border, signed 'Freeman', 27cm diameter CONDITION REPORT: Scratched 'X' mark to underside between foot rim and makers stamp, may indicate a second, however the strike is not through the makers stamp. No obvious chips, cracks or restoration.
*Dodgson (Charles Lutwidge, 'Lewis Carroll', 1832-1898). Autograph letter signed, 'C.L. Dodgson', 7 Lushington Road, Eastbourne, 10 July 1892, to Alice Ottley, asking whether she might need any help in teaching at her High School, 'If so, I have a very dear friend, "Edith Rix" by name, whom I would strongly recommend. She is about 25. You would find yourself in full sympathy with her, and would, I believe, like her very much', manuscript note on behalf of the recipient at foot, 'I have said you are ill and away but will answer if you should need anyone - not otherwise', written in blue ink, one page, small 8vo, together with "White & Blue", The Alice Ottley School Magazine No. 71, December 1913, original stapled printed wrappers, a little soiling, slim 8vo Alice Ottley was headmistress of her eponymous school in Worcester, and which Carroll visited. Edith Rix (1866-1918) was a close friend of Carroll from when they first met in 1885 until his death. (2)
