Southeast Asia, western Philippines, Palawan Island, Tagbanua tribe, ca. early to mid-20th century. A hand-carved cylindrical bamboo quiver known as a karaban used for transporting a blowgun, darts, and handle. The narrow container has a gently tapered rim meant to mitigate the darts from spilling out and reflective brown and tan hues across the exterior. A braided rattan fiber strap wraps around the midsection and secures the bottom of the carved wooden handle which bears the likeness of a boar, a favorite hunting target of Tagnabua huntsmen.Height: 16.5 inches. - Provenance: this item comes from the private collection of Lou A. and Barbara B.
