Lieutenant Colonel Louis Harris Wrangham, M.C., R.M. (1897-1941). Collection of more than 1,000 photographs in five albums capturing military and leisure activities, including numerous photographs depicting Edward, Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) during his tour of the Indian Subcontinent and Japan in 1921-22. The photographs capture various cultures & customs, scenery & landmarks (including, for instance, the Egyptian pyramids and Great Sphinx of Giza), sports & leisure (including swimming, tennis, hunting, horse racing, and polo); vehicles (including aircraft, warships, cars), and moments of civilian & family life. Approximately 35 photographs depict the Prince of Wales engaging in various activities or meeting notable figures such as Prince Regent Hirohito. Some photographs were taken on board HMS Renown, including images of the Prince's farewell speech to the ship's company. The photographs are in various sizes, well-preserved, mounted on the original card album pages; the albums are oblong quarto size, bound in half crushed morocco, the boards and spines worn. Together with a handwritten letter from 'Officer Commanding 11th R.M. Battalion' to 'Adjutant General, Royal Marines', 29 March 1923, explaining at length that a pencil inscription by Wrangham (on an attached document) can't be accepted as a 'mere joke', and that he would therefore like him to be removed from his command (the inscription in question, which is on a typed military order, is 'Balls'). Also a copy of The Globe & Laurel, 1941, which features Wrangham's obituary on p.368, and a signed photographic profile portrait of HRH Prince George, Duke of Kent (1902-1942), inscribed on the lower margin, 'with best wishes for Xmas 1941'

Some plates have some small chips and nibbles to the rims, a few chips are large, a few examples with pitting to glaze from manufacture, there are some slight variations in the pattern colour and design, and the sharpness in the decoration- some have a slight blurry appearance. Some plates have an embossed lattice effect to the ceramic around the border, but most are without. The collection was assembled over many years, and so does not totally match.Condition Report Disclaimer
