Merry (Tom, i.e. William Mecham, caricaturist). An album of 102 double-page col. litho. political cartoons from St Stephen's Review, 29th October 1887 to 2nd November 1889, all partially pasted in and mounted back-to back throughout, accompanying text often pasted to print versos, two double-size prints (Houses of Commons and Lords), some occ. minor spotting and a few centrefold splits but overall very good condition, contemp. half morocco, broken and spine deficient, folio. A run, apparently lacking only five cartoons for 19th, 26th November, 17th December 1887, 10th March and 20th October 1888. A good collection including many of Irish interest, cartoon themes including horse racing, hunting, one of W.G. Grace, etc. (1)
* Herefordshire - Hunting Rights. Two vellum indentures, 10th December 1733 & 2nd July 1781, both granting from The Lord Bishop of Gloucester, the rights to hunt deer in part of the forests in Herefordshire, both with wax seals attached, each approx. 53 x 63 cm The hunting of deer at this time was reserved to a very privileged few, and punishment of transportation was often given to those caught poaching deer. Documents granting rights to hunt deer are scarce. (2)
