Duncan from the owner of “Madge” 1881’ No. 31107, circa 1880 Movement: damascened, jewelled lever escapement, wolf’s tooth winding Dial: white enamel, Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, stop/start centre seconds Case: 18ct gold, glazed cuvette, inscription to the rear cover, engraved initals RD to the front cover, milled bands Signed: case, dial and movement Dimensions: diameter 52mm Accessories: fitted presentation case £800-£1,000 --- Henry Capt. used the term Demi-Chronomètre to indicate that a movement had been sent to the Observatory for trials but did not complete the entire course of testing. Henry Capt. and Vacheron Constantin are the only Swiss makers known for using this term. The ‘Madge’ was a racing cutter (yacht) owned by James Coats, a thread manufacturer of Paisley, Scotland. When it arrived in New York in 1881, the ‘Madge’ won seven of eight starts at the America’s Cup that season.

Bligh, Brittas, Nobber, CMeath, Ireland’ £200-£300 --- Provenance: The property of Major Frederick Arthur Bligh Frederick Arthur Bligh was born in Farnham, Surrey, on 3 July 1861, the only son of Major Frederick Cherburgh Bligh, 41st Regiment of Foot, and was educated at Cheltenham College and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He was commissioned Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery on 23 February 1881, and served in the Chestnut Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, being promoted Captain on 20 July 1889. Transferring to the Half Pay List on 13 September 1892, he relinquished his commission in 1895, after 12 years’ service, and returned to his native Ireland, serving as a J.P. for County Meath, and was High Sheriff in 1904. On the outbreak of the Great War Bligh volunteered his services, and in June 1915 was called up in the rank of Major to train a Battery for the Ulster Division, Royal Field Artillery. On the last day of training at Okehampton, before leaving for the front, he was taken seriously ill, and died there of neglected appendicitis, contracted whilst on service, on 15 November 1915. He is buried in Headley All Saints Churchyard, Hampshire.

* JOHN KINGSLEY RSW DA PAI, DAWN LIGHT AND THE OLD TREE oil on canvas, signed image size 54cm x 59cm, overall size 68cm x 72cm Framed and under glass. Note: John Kingsley was born in Glasgow in 1956. He studied drawing and painting at Glasgow School of Art from 1973-77. His art tutors included James D Robertson, David Donaldson and Geoffrey Squire. From 1980-86 he exhibited in one-man shows at the annual S.N.O. promenade concerts at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow and in 1986 he was elected a member of Group 81 Artists, who exhibited regularly at the McLellan Galleries, Glasgow. John Kingsley has established a reputation as a leading Scottish contemporary artist. He was a finalist in the Hunting Art Prizes competition in London in 1989, 1993 and 1998, and was highly commended in the same competition in 1996. In 1991 Kingsley won the William Bowie Landscape Prize and in 1992 the Mary Armour Award at the Paisley Art Institute. Kingsley has an international reputation with art works in many public and private art collections across Europe, Australia, Canada and the USA. His paintings are found in the art collections of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Argyll and Bute District Council and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow and in numerous corporate collections throughout the UK.

THOMAS IVESTER-LLOYD (British, 1873-1942), a pair of early 20th century watercolour hunting studies, each signed and initialled lower right, oak framed and glazed (image sizes 32cm x 43cm) (2)Condition Report: It is noted that the picture of the single huntsman in red coat upon a bay hunter is very foxed with prevalent spots mostly to the sky area and across the whole painting, also two vertical lightish brown marks towards the top left-hand side, the frame is a little scratched and scuffed but appears to be in good overall order. The second painting is in much better condition although, again, under scrutiny, there are 10-15 brown spots in the sky area, the frame appears in very good overall original condition.
