Photography.- Silvy (Camille) Trophée de Chasse, still life of dead game on a wooden board, albumen print, 217 x 158 mm. (8 ½ x 6 ¼ in.), corners trimmed, on contemporary blue card mount, 468 x 303 mm. (18 ½ x 11 ¾ in.), Silvy's stamped signature in red below image, [c 1858-59]. ⁂ The board is painted with the words La Galaisière and the monogram HF. Chateau de la Galaisière, near Silvy's home at Nogent-le-Rotrou in the Loire Valley, was the residence of Achille Gabriel Fergon (1795-1886) and the initials are almost certainly those of his son Henri Fergon (1832-1913). Portraits by Silvy of Achille, Henri and his sister Ernestine, all in hunting dress, together with another Trophée de Chasse, were sold by Brissonneau, Daguerre, Paris, 19 May 2010, lots 15-17, and are now in the Musée de Nogent-le-Rotrou. Like the other Trophée de Chasse cited above, elements at the edges of the board have been trimmed round to create a three-dimensional effect. 1858.

HEYWOOD WALTER SETON-KARR (BRITISH 1859 - 1938), LUXOR, EGYPT watercolour on paper, signed and dated 5/2/1905 24cm x 36.5cm Framed and under glass Note: Heywood Walter Seton-Karr, was a British Explorer and collector of archaeological artefacts. A former captain of the Gordon Highlanders, one of the British Army's most celebrated regiments. After a university education at Oxford he served in the British Army in Egypt. He went on to travel widely in Africa and Asia and the large collection of artefacts that he amassed were distributed to museums throughout the world Along with his sketches, Seton-Karr kept a journal which he published in London in 1887, titled "Shores and Alps of Alaska." Seton-Karr was a working member of the Society for the Preservation of Art in 1900 and exhibited works at the Army Officers' Art Society in the 1930's. He was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and authored several books on travel and big game hunting.
China & Japan Photographs LATE 19TH CENTURY Photograph album, comprising 97 photographs in mixed medias and sizes of China and Japan, late C.19th, including many intimate images of family life, personal and candid photographs and several portraits with Mr Schröder and his favoured horses and friends, including a 'Drag Hounds' hunting invitation dated Shanghai, 5 March 1906, accompanied by many images of hounds on the hunt and cordial shots of the hunting party with their spoil, some images include Mr Schröder and his wife in traditional robes, on family picnics and posing with a stuffed tiger, with other images including European officer portraits and military regiments in formation in the streets of Shanghai; included are three photographs entitled "85 General View of Otsu City from Midera" "B.8 Sarusawasnara" and "Y20 Kasuga Temple at Nara" Provenance: From the collection of the Merchant and Anthroposophist Johannes Gottfried William Schröder (1870-1942).
