This first work was painted in 1847 and he did not paint another figural work, 'A Hunting Scene' until 1890. These two were believed to be the only two until the discovery of this lost work in Canada. It was originally sold at his studio sale 12th - 15th April 1902 and has the Christie's stencil mark '115 AH' as well as the artists monogram 'TSC' branded into the back. This work, lost since 1902 represents a significant discovery and a substantial addition to the artists oeuvre. TSC was a most prolific exhibitor at the RA, exhibiting 266 works between 1833 and 1902, which still stands as a record today.
