A circa 1830 mahogany longcase clock, having a scroll pediment and twin ring turned pilasters flanking painted arched dial (width 13 inches) with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and date dial signed George Steel, Chester Le Street, the arch and corners painted with hunting scenes, game and hounds, twin winding holes for a brass four pillar twin train eight day weight driven movement striking on a bell, the trunk having a shaped and crossbanded door with flame mahogany veneers, part canted corners and raised on a panelled box base on bracket feet, height 229cm

A 14-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN BY JOSEPH MANTON, LONDON, serial no. 9076, circa 1822, with 30in. twist sighted barrels, the rib engraved with a trophy of arms at the breeches and signed 'JOSEPH MANTON'S NEW IMPROVEMENTS, BY HIS MAJESTY'S PATENT.', patent breeches each with pierced platinum plug and engraved with a hunting trophy on the rib, scroll engraved tang and signed locks, hammers each with screw-retained nose, figured walnut half-stock (fore-end cracked) with chequered grip, engraved iron mounts including trigger-guard with grip-safety, silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and white-metal tipped ramrod with brass worm (some discolouration and scattered pitting), London proof marks. This serial number is recorded in W. Keith Neal & D.H.L. Back, The Mantons: Gunmakers, on page 274. Although the gun discussed by Neal & Back is similar (listed as belonging to James Purdey & Sons Ltd.), it is not the present Lot. Bohler-steel chopperlump barrels with raised, matt rib, gold-inlaid '1790 - Josef Just, Ferlach - 1990' and with scroll engraving at the breech, the lump gold-inlaid 'S', 3in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, heavy bolstered action, gold-washed triggers, pins and cocking-indicators, action and lockplates deeply carved with bold acanthus on a background of finely-engraved scrollwork, triggerplate signed 'Christian Pramesberger', bright finish overall, 14 1/2in. well-figured stock, weight 6lbs. 5oz., in its fitted green velvet-lined case (with provision for a hunting knife).

BIRMINGHAM', and with leaf sights for 100, 200 and 300 yards, 2 1/2in. reproved shot barrel, bored approx. true cyl, treble-grip action, carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks with c-scroll hammers, action and lockplates engraved with border and scrollwork, surrounding scenes of lion and tiger hunting, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14 1/4in. highly-figured pistolgrip stock with fancy chequering, sling eyes and horn pistolgrip-cap and buttplate, slight setting crack to rear of right lockplate, weight 7lbs. 10oz.
