A fine quality Dieppe carved ivory and silver hunt interest aide memoire, 19th century, of arched form, one side finely carved with a hunting dog beneath overhanging foliage, within a shaped reserve, the back with a similar reserve carved with a horse, the hinged silver clasp with maker's mark 'GUY', the six leaves inscribed with days of the week from Monday to Saturday, 3½in. (8.9cm.) long, lacks pencil.* Condition: Lacks pencil. Top face slightly sun faded. Otherwise very good, with no other faults.

The pommel of a Boars head, and guard of reversed hooves and seated stag and hind. The ornately decorated 21.1/4" blade having hunting scenes and crossed rifles and foiliage. MEDALS GT/WAR & WW11 TO A R N - RNR OFFICER. A 1914/15 Star, British War & Victory Medals, named to M.6121 S G H Leyh 2. Wtr R N . Unnamed W W 11 Medals are the 1939/45 and Pacific Stars, Defence & War Medals. A cased 1938 dated Royal Naval Reserve Decoration, on its original plain green ribbon. Medal ribbon bars (3 rows) are full size, BEM, 1914/15 Star & Rosette, Bwm & Victory medals. 1937 Coronation Medal and RNR Decoration, with white edges on the ribbon (Correct for after 1941). The miniature bar is as the fullsize set, except in only (2 rows). Stanley George Hoare Leyh rose from 2nd writer to A/Chief Writer by the time he was awarded a BEM in December 1918. (Party per sec Allied Naval Council) L G 31/12/1918. The King has been pleased to confer the Medal (BEM) of the Most Excellent Order of The British Empire, upon the under-mentioned for Services in connection with the War. A/Ch Wtr S G H Leyh. In the 1930 Navy List he is a P Lieutenant R N R. Family providence states he was one of the last people out on a ship, from Hong Kong. It was during this retreat he was to save the life of the Tiger Balm King Later service was with the Royal Australian Navy, he never returned to Great Britain. Presumably he took part in the 1937 Coronation, whereby he was awarded the medal. The medal listing appears to show that he reapplied in 1948, for his Gt War Medals. It is also known he left at the last instance before the Japanese invaded, probably leaving his BEM and other medals behind. Again by family provenance he filled his car with all his valuable, and pushed it into the harbour during the final hours. The list is quite long, from officers requesting the same re-issues. He retired with the rank of Commander. A related African Safari Club medallion of New York , Presented to HIH Prince Abdorreza Pahlavi. April 29th 1971. 50mm in a bronze finish. Hunting World Inc. New York on the rim. With a copied photograph of him, wearing his medal ribbons.

The 4th Gurkha Rifles leaving for France in August and December 1914. 1917 Kashmir, Camp Barham, Bakloh, etc. Waziristan 1919-20, Bear Hunting, Dhar and Jamdola. Machine Guns in Action Sarwekai Jan 1921, Gurkha Officers at Chagmalai Camp Spring 1921. Put together by Lt Col C D Roe, consisting of his life in India including warfare and sport (polo etc). Most photographs are notated by himself, bringing the days of Empire to life. Both during and between the W Wars, forts and vehicles, family etc. Over 130 original photographs are in the album, with (3) glazed related photographs, etc.
A JAPANESE BONE NETSUKE MEIJI 1868-1912 Depicting an armour-clad samurai, possibly Kato Kiyomasa, restraining a tiger beneath him, holding a short dagger in his right hand ready to administer the fatal blow, the feline with its mouth open and baring its fangs, unsigned, 4.4cm. Kato Kiyomasa (1562-1611) was a daimyo living during the Azuchi-Momoyama and Edo periods. Famous for his uncompromising militaristic views, he led several successful campaigns against Joseon in Korea. He established and expanded many castles, including Kumamoto, and is often represented practising his hobby of hunting tigers.
