Important early marriage settlement, dated 11th April 1611 , in which George Ker of Fawdounsyde, for the completion and observance of his part of a marriage contract between Lord George Home of Wodderburne [Wedderburn], knight, and David Home, his son and heir apparent, on behalf of Elizabeth Home, daughter of the said Lord George, grant lands in Stevinstoun with fortified tower, mill, fisheries on the Tyne, its moor, advowson and patronage of the chaplain of the alter of the Holy Blood within the collegiate church of Hadingtoun, the document goes on to list rights to all houses, woods, fields, moors, marshes, roads, lanes, ponds, brooks, meadows, grazings and pasture, mills, livestock, young beasts, hunting grounds, fisheries, peat moors, tuberies, coal and coalmine, rabbit warrens, smithies, etc., given at Stevinstoun, complete with a large ornate pendant wax seal appended showing coat of arms, accompanied with a full two-page translation The Holmes are amongst the oldest amd most celebrated of all the historical families in Scotland.
