GEORGE ADEN TWOK AHGUPUK (1911-2001) SEAL HUNTER WITH DOGS IN THE CANADIAN ARCTIC Signed, pen and ink and grey wash, on reindeer skin 9 x 14cm. * Ahgupuk was born in Shishmaref on the Bering Sea and he left school at nine to become a hunter with his family. He badly injured his leg hunting ptarmigan and took up drawing whilst recovering in hospital, using burnt match heads and toilet tissue as pencils and paper were scarce. He continued to work on carefully prepared bleached and scraped animals skins (including seal, moose, caribou and even salmon). ++ Good condition; sandwich mounted
