A RARE GERMAN HUNTING SWORD INCORPORATING A TURKISH 17TH CENTURY BLADE AND MOUNTS, MID-18TH CENTURY with straight blade double-edged at the point, etched with an inscription within a shallow fuller on one side, silver ferrule decorated with a scrolled cartouche on a stippled ground, finely carved ivory hilt decorated with rococo scalloped ornament in high relief, rising to a pierced pommel formed of a series of scrolls and scrolling tendrils (small age cracks), in its leather-covered wooden scabbard complete with large Turkish 17th Century silver chape chased with a pattern of flowers and foliage on a punched ground, and German locket complete with a scallop-shaped button for suspension 52.6cm; 20N in bladeThe inscriptions on the blade are from the Qur'an, Surah al-Ikhlas (CXII) and Surah al-Saff (LXI), parts of 13. The relatively crude style of the inscription are commensurate with an early date of manufacture.
