Bearing the Galton family crest with motto ‘gaudet luce videri’, the box is decorated with hand painted vidutas of Queen Victoria’s estates, and was probably purchased at the Queen and Prince Albert’s visit to Castle Taymouth that year, attended by Galton as a guest of the Menzies’, stamped to the inside front edge, and with original tartan compartment lids 19.5cm W Charles Stiven (Steven) produced their range of 69 tartans in 1842
