A French Brass Mounted Ebonised and Boullework Caddy, circa 1860, of serpentine rectangular form, on cast scroll feet, containing a pair of Paris porcelain bottles and stoppers and a similar box and cover, painted with flowers on a blue ground highlighted in gilt, 27.5cm wide See illustration. Box with typical surface wear. Lining in poor condition. Finial of cover to box restored. 120220
A George III Silver Double Tea-Caddy, by William Fountain, London 1798, tapering oval and with reeded bands, with overhead reeded handle and two hinged covers, engraved with a crest, 17.5cm high, 21oz 6dwt. Fully marked underneath. Further marked inside each cover with lion passant only. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the high points. There are a number of bruises in the body and the handle is slightly bent out of alignment. There are visible plugs on each side where the lock is fixed. These may be constructional. There is some fire-scale visible in places.
Eardley Norton of London - an 18th century walnut cased bracket clock, the signed arched brass dial having silvered strike/silent dial to the arch, the silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals and inner alarm scale, twin winding holes for a brass wire driven eight day verge fusee movement, with pull-repeat, engraved backplate, and striking on a bell, the case having caddy top, gilt brass mounts, and on gilt brass scroll feet, h.57cm (handle down).Case is period and movement is period, but possibly associated because the seatboard looks wrong.Signs of some old fixings to inside of door frame.Brass mounts to case possibly later.
A Sheraton period mahogany and floral marquetry inlaid tea caddy, the hinged cover opening to reveal partitioned interior containing three silver tea canisters, each of square baluster form, the covers each with leaf and acorn finials, the whole chased with floral swags, C-scrolls, and acanthus leaves, raised on scroll feet, maker Pierre Gillois, London 1760, gross silver weight 25oz, the largest canister h.13cm, caddy w.26.3cm.Case appears later, probably circa 1790.No key.Hinges good.Lid closes well and does not ‘smile’.All central veneers good.Rosewood crossbanding with some signs of lifting, but still complete with only one small replaced section to rear corner.Some minor surface scuffs.Appears unpolished and original.Caddies all fit very well.All caddies good and appear very little used, marks good.

A Caughley wine taster or scoop circa 1785 of circular form with leaf-shaped handle, transfer-printed in underglaze blue with the Fisherman or Pleasure Boat pattern, unmarked, 6.5cm wide Provenance: Ex. Wychwood Collection. Notes: See Ironbridge 1999 no.4, which is catalogued as a 'scoop' and Newsletter September 2003 No.15 p.10. Whilst often described as a wine taster, the actual function of these is under dispute. Ideas ranging from caddy spoons to tasters have been put forth, however their actual use remains unknown beyond being intended to serve a 'single' portion similar to asparagus servers and custard cups.
